CareerWise Recruitment is inviting applications for a Food Technologist (NPD) for our Cork-based food production client. This is a permanent role.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic team that develops branded and private label seafood products for the Irish & European retail market. The role involves working closely with the Technical, Production, and Market & Sales departments to launch high-quality added value seafood products. Working with a team of technical & commercial professionals, you will get involved in the latest innovation projects, ensuring new products are technically safe and legal with the correct specifications. To succeed in this role, you will need a culinary arts/food technology/science background and be able to apply your knowledge in a commercial setting.
THE ROLE
1. Ensuring all new products consistently deliver for the consumer while meeting the agreed standards.
2. Leading research projects through the Research & Innovation process from concept to launch, working cross-functionally.
3. Assisting on R&D/NPD & EPD projects through the product development process.
4. Ensuring 100% compliance with all policies and legislation.
5. Coordinating the day-to-day product development process of line extension and brand pack-resizing projects from project brief to launch.
6. Monitoring compliance with the stage gate product development process and implementing Lean NPD techniques.
7. Ensuring that the process and product are protected and continuously improved.
8. Liaising with Directors, Heads of Departments, Key Account Retail Customers, and delivering product development projects at stakeholder meetings.
REQUIREMENTS
1. A Masters or Bachelor degree in Food Technology or Food Science.
2. 3-5 years experience in Product Development/Research & Development or a transferable role such as Quality/Technical Teams.
3. Project management and planning skills with the ability to handle a varied and busy workload.
4. Clear and efficient project management skills with minimal discussion.
5. Research skills, including literature review, development of hypothesis, technical report writing, and execution of investigations.
6. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to update and report results concisely.
7. Excellent computer skills in Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.
8. The ability to work individually and as part of a large, cross-functional team.
9. Ability to work under pressure to ensure deadlines are met.
10. Outstanding attention to detail.
11. Good knowledge of food, fish, and the latest innovations.
12. Functional hands-on experience with food quality systems (e.g., BRC Standard, HACCP systems, Allergen control).
13. Good technical knowledge of specification and customer systems such as TTL, Igloo, or similar.
14. Up-to-date knowledge of food legislation and legal labelling requirements.
15. Product quality optimization and application of benchmarking and lean techniques.
16. Supplier negotiation skills.
17. Process-oriented with strong organizational, analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
