The HSA is a dynamic State Agency responsible for promoting and enforcing workplace health and safety legislation.
We are seeking an experienced professional to lead our Legal Unit as the Head of Legal Services (Principal Officer).
About Us
We were established in 1989 under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 1989. Since then, we have been conferred additional functions under various legislation, including the Chemicals Acts 2008 and 2010.
In 2014, the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) was included under our functions.
We report to the Minister of State for Business, Employment and Retail under delegated authority from the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.
Our Chief Executive Officer, together with the Assistant Chief Executives, manages the implementation of strategy in line with our statutory responsibilities.

About the Role
The Head of Legal Services will be responsible for managing the relationship with external legal advice providers, monitoring legislative changes, and providing high-quality legal advice on all aspects of our statutory functions.
The role requires a qualified solicitor or barrister with at least four years post-qualification experience in legal practice, whether in the private or public sectors or as in-house counsel.
We are looking for someone with relevant litigation experience and a strong understanding of criminal and regulatory law, as well as judicial review.
Other desirable requirements include knowledge of the legislative process, data protection law, and occupational health and safety law.
