Fellowship Overview:
This is an Endocrinology (Thyroid) Clinical Fellowship which will allow the successful candidate to gain -
4. Subspecialist expertise in Thyroid disease - common and rare
5. Consultant level experience in leading Thyroid MDTs
6. Multidisciplinary care of Thyroid disease
7. Publication(s) in peer reviewed journal(s)
8. Presentation at national and international levels
9. Thyroid specific course completion - see below
10. Development of Endocrine clinical pathways and patient information - see below
11. Additional clinical exposure to pituitary endocrinology (including post-operative care), parathyroid disease, general endocrinology.
The Fellowship research will build on the work of and be supervised by Dr Carla Moran, Endocrinology Consultant Beacon Hospital.
Clinical component (approximately 20 hours pw)
The Fellow will be given a level responsibility in keeping with their experience.
Clinical - common Thyroid cases in clinic - weekly 8 hr clinic
Preparation for clinic, required reading for cases, admin after clinic
Lead fortnightly Thyroid MDT, prep cases, admin afterwards
Endocrine inpatient reviews
Endocrine oncology inpatient liaison
Endocrine pituitary (neurosurgery) inpatient care
Supervision of Endocrine Dynamic testing: infusion suite and inpatients
Rare Thyroid Disease MDT (Dublin/Cambridge) - weekly (online)
Preparation for Rare Thyroid Disease MDT
Rare Thyroid disease clinic - every 3m
Prep for Rare Thyroid Disease clinic and admin after clinic
Research component (approximately 14 hours pw)
Resistance to Thyroid Hormone
Drug induced Thyroid disease
Assay abnormalities
Education component (approximately 3 hours pw)
Promote education on Endocrinology to the NCHD cohort, as well as multi-disciplinary team members.
In conjunction with UCD Beacon Academy provide education & teaching to undergraduate medical students and interns - through classroom-based tutorials, ward rounds, teaching during procedures, and participation in masterclasses and Grand Rounds.
