Breedon Group plc is a listed construction materials group in Great Britain and Ireland employing around 3,500 people. It operates two cement plants and an extensive network of quarries, asphalt plants and ready-mixed concrete plants, together with slate production, concrete and clay products manufacturing and highway maintenance operations.
Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing (Cement), as the Health and Safety Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and compliance of cement products manufacturing operations. You will be responsible for risk assessment, training programmes, preparation of communications and tool box talks, incident reporting & investigation, reporting and site audits to maintain a safe and secure work environment, supporting the Breedon Home, Safe and Well programme.
Key Responsibilities
1. Risk Assessment: Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop effective strategies for risk mitigation.
2. Training: Develop and deliver comprehensive health and safety training programmes for employees, contractors, and visitors, ensuring awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
3. Incident Management: Investigate and report on workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
4. Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant health and safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
5. Safety Policies: Develop, implement, and update health and safety policies and procedures, fostering a culture of safety throughout the organisation.
6. Emergency Response: Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures, including evacuation plans and first aid protocols.
7. Conduct health, safety and environment internal audits
8. Work closely with the Breedon Health Safety and wellbeing team in Ireland and Great Britain
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
9. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field (or equivalent experience).
10. Minimum 3 years relevant experience as a Health and Safety Advisor in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the construction products industry.
11. Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
12. Experience in preparing and implementing risk assessments and associated control procedures
13. Experience of health and safety management systems
14. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and engage employees at all levels.
15. Internal audit experience
16. Experience with incident investigation and reporting.
17. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
18. Professional certifications in health and safety is a plus.

The role is ROI Midlands based and the candidate should be prepared to travel routinely within that region. Occasional additional travel might be required.
