Staff Grade Physiotherapist – Primary Care
The Staff Grade Physiotherapist will work within the Primary Care team, providing high-quality physiotherapy services to individuals across the lifespan. This role will involve the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of a wide range of musculoskeletal, neurological, and respiratory conditions. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment, providing person-centred care and promoting the health and wellbeing of patients in the encatchment region.
Key Responsibilities of Physiotherapist
1. Carry out comprehensive assessments of clients referred to the physiotherapy service, identifying musculoskeletal, neurological, or cardiorespiratory impairments.
2. Use clinical reasoning skills to formulate individualized treatment plans based on the assessment findings.
3. Deliver evidence-based physiotherapy interventions to restore movement, function, and reduce pain or disability.
4. Implement rehabilitation programs, including exercises, manual therapy, education, and electrotherapy as needed.
5. Educate patients on self-management strategies and preventative measures to promote long-term health.
6. Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals within the primary care team, including Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Public Health Nurses, GPs, and Social Workers.
7. Participate in case reviews, team meetings, and joint planning with other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
8. Engage in health promotion activities to encourage physical activity and healthier lifestyles within the community.
9. Provide education on injury prevention, postural care, and movement strategies for different age groups and conditions.
10. Participate in regular clinical supervision with senior physiotherapists to ensure continuous professional development.
11. Be open to receiving guidance and feedback on clinical practice to improve the quality of care provided.
12. Assist in the supervision and mentoring of Physiotherapy Assistants and student physiotherapists during clinical placements.
13. Support the education and development of staff and students by sharing knowledge and clinical expertise.
14. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient assessments, treatments, and progress in line with professional and organisational standards.
15. Ensure that all clinical documentation is completed in a timely manner and adheres to GDPR regulations.
16. Contribute to the ongoing evaluation and improvement of the physiotherapy service by participating in audits, research, and service reviews.
17. Provide feedback to the Senior Physiotherapist or Team Lead on areas for service development and quality improvement.
Essential Qualifications & Experience of a Staff Grade Physiotherapist
1. A recognised qualification in Physiotherapy from an accredited institution.
2. Registration with CORU (Health and Social Care Professionals Council) as a Physiotherapist.
3. A minimum of 1-2 years of post-qualification experience (including student placements) in a range of clinical settings, preferably in primary care or community services.
4. Must be CORU registered.
5. Experience in assessing and managing musculoskeletal, neurological, and respiratory conditions.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients, families, and colleagues.
7. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
8. Organisational skills, with the capacity to manage a varied caseload and work independently.
9. Experience working in a primary care or community healthcare setting.
10. Knowledge of local healthcare structures and the primary care model.
11. A full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle, as the role may require travel to various locations within Limerick for home visits or community clinics.
