Fleet Manager – Job Summary
Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient management, maintenance, and operation of the company’s fleet. This includes ensuring all vehicles are in good working condition, are compliant with safety and regulatory standards, and are utilized cost-effectively. The Fleet Manager will also handle scheduling, driver management, and logistics optimization.
Responsibilities:
1. Fleet Operations Management:
o Oversee daily operations of the vehicle fleet, ensuring efficient allocation and utilization.
o Monitor and analyze fleet performance, ensuring optimal efficiency and cost control.
o Develop strategies to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs (fuel consumption, maintenance, etc.).
2. Vehicle Maintenance:
o Ensure all vehicles are properly maintained and serviced regularly.
o Manage preventive maintenance schedules, repairs, and inspections.
o Coordinate with external vendors for maintenance and repairs when necessary.
3. Regulatory Compliance:
o Ensure all vehicles comply with relevant legal, environmental, and safety regulations.
o Maintain accurate records of vehicle documentation, including insurance, registration, and inspections.
o Monitor driver compliance with road safety standards and regulations.
4. Driver Management:
o Monitor driver performance, behaviour, and adherence to company policies.
5. Fuel and Cost Management:
o Track fuel usage and optimize fuel efficiency across the fleet.
o Manage the fleet budget and forecast future costs.
o Develop cost-saving initiatives, such as route optimization and fuel management programs.
6. Fleet Tracking & Reporting:
o Utilize fleet management software to track vehicle location, status, and performance.
o Generate reports on fleet performance, fuel usage, vehicle health, and other key metrics.
o Report regularly to senior management on fleet operations, performance, KPI’s such as fleet utilisation rate, vehicle downtime and maintenance costs, driver performance metrics (safety incidents etc) and recommendations for improvements.
7. Procurement and Disposal:
o Manage the procurement of new vehicles, negotiating with suppliers for the best terms.
o Oversee the sale or disposal of outdated or underperforming vehicles.

o Proficiency in fleet management software and telematics systems.
o Understanding of vehicle mechanics, maintenance, and regulatory requirements.
o Ability to analyze data and generate actionable insights.
o Strong communication skills for interacting with drivers, vendors, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications:
* Education: Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field. (Relevant work experience may substitute for formal education).
* Experience: 5 years of experience in fleet management, logistics, or a similar role.
* Certifications: Certifications in fleet management (e.g., Certified Automotive Fleet Manager, NAFA) are preferred but not mandatory.
* License: Valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record.
