As a key member of the Operations Engineering team, the Solutions Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in driving change and innovation within Amazon's EMEA fulfillment network.
The ideal candidate will have an established background in developing high-performance physical systems, with a strong technical problem-solving ability and excellent project management skills.
Responsibilities include:
1. Designing and developing engineering solutions for complex material handling challenges, considering human/equipment interactions for the EMEA fulfillment network.
2. Leading and coordinating concept and design development efforts for optimal solutions for the EMEA fulfillment network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, ergonomics, associate experience, operational considerations, and site layout.
3. Collaborating with vendors, suppliers, and other teams to create innovative solutions.
4. Managing high-visibility projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors, and vendors.
5. Conducting post-mortem on designs after implementation in partnering with Safety and Operations.
6. Developing, documenting, and updating design standards in conjunction with worldwide design teams.
7. Building strong working relationships with key company partners such as EMEA Start-up, EMEA Launch team, Worldwide Design team, Procurement, Information Technology, Loss Prevention, Facilities, Safety, Change Management, and EMEA Operations.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Process Engineering or related STEM field.
2. Extensive experience in Design/Innovation, Research & Development, Manufacturing/Process/Industrial Engineering.
3. Experience with complex MHE and packaging lines or process design based on Lean Manufacturing or Toyota Manufacturing System.
4. Experience using MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software.
5. Experience leading engineering design projects and interacting with cross-functional teams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. MBA, Master's Degree or other advanced degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Process Engineering, Operations, Business Administration or related field.
2. Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.
3. Proficiency in AutoCAD and other 3D CAD.
4. Proficiency in using advanced simulation modeling tools (Flexsim, Arena, Simio, etc).
5. Operations Management/ Fulfillment/Distribution Center experience preferred.
6. Capital project management skills.
7. Proficiency with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making.
