Overview
This job description defines the role of a Project Engineer. This is a customer-facing role focused on Production, Scheduling, Commercial, Continuous Improvement, and supporting functions across various departments within an Engineering facility, reporting directly to the Managing Director.
The core objectives of this role are as follows:
* Client focused and client facing
* Project engineering & project management of programs and projects across the company; equipment, continuous improvement projects/activities, etc.
* Equipment, design, some automation, and related services, including supplier management and selection.
* Lead project management activities (e.g., project planning, tracking, risk management, reporting, communications, etc.)
* Process engineering – process setup, validations, process improvements, procedure updates, and development.
Duties & Responsibilities
Client Focus
* Sales support through leading/supporting quotation and proposal activities.
* Support and may lead customer audits and visits.
* Project ownership, including schedule, resourcing, and budget management.
* Customer management – kick-off & regular meetings (set the tone/take control), minutes, issue logs/escalations, change management, and expectation management.
* Potential travel to customer sites/prepare for customer visits & assist with surveys.
Project Management / Project Engineering
* Leading the design team on various fabrication projects; coordinates and leads across engineering, quality, supply chain, finance, sales, and production/ops teams.
* Lead projects in front of the customer, following ISO9001:2015 and EN1090 procedures.
* Lead full project management activities; capacity planning – new equipment/resourcing requirements (e.g., project budget/schedule planning, tracking, risk management, reporting, communications, etc.).
* Vendor management – including BOM outsourcing/pass-through sales setup.
* Lead the entire process from customer PO to production ramp planning.
* Identify and lead Continuous Improvement and cost reduction initiatives across functional teams.
Continuous Improvement
* Demonstrates strong knowledge and application of process improvement tools in identifying and eliminating "waste" process steps.
* Use Lean methodologies to drive continuous improvement focused on Quality, Cost, Material flow, and layout.
* Support, upgrade, and implement project management best practices across project life cycles.
Quality System
* Support the development and upgrade of engineering procedures, templates, and forms to ISO9001 and EN1090 standards.
* May own and lead CAPA and NCE activities.
* Support all customers, suppliers, and audits as required, taking a lead role in certain areas from an Engineering perspective.
Education & Experience Required:
* A degree in a relevant engineering subject is required.
* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment required.
* Customer-facing experience.
* Project engineering and project management experience.
* Process Engineering is an advantage (but not essential).
* Familiarity with Pressure Equipment Directive, Machinery Directive, and ATEX required.
