Job Description:
The Graduate Planner will be required to work as part of a team in the Council's busy Planning Department under the supervision and direction of an Executive or Senior Executive Planner, who will also provide mentoring over the contract period.
Main Responsibilities:
* Carry out all duties allocated to them by the Council under the direction and supervision of the relevant supervisor.
* Prepare material for presentation, meetings, publication, and exhibition.
* Attend public meetings and consultations.
* Manage their work to achieve agreed objectives to a high standard within agreed and statutory timeframes.
* Assist with any office management tasks assigned to them.
* Work on Development Plans, Local Area Plans, Strategic Development Zone (SDZ) Schemes, special projects, conservation, development management, planning information services, and transportation/traffic, or other areas as may be assigned.
Requirements:
* Hold an honours degree (level eight in the National Framework of Qualifications) in Planning or be in the final year of an honours degree in Planning and be in a position to commence employment upon completion of the degree course.
* Evidence of holding an honours degree prior to taking up duty will be required.
* Possess good professional knowledge and skills.
* Be able to work independently or within multi-disciplined teams.
* Be capable of working on their own initiative.
* Possess good interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to engage with a wide range of people.
* Demonstrate an understanding of good planning practice.
* Possess good organisational skills.
* Possess good IT skills.
* Have an understanding of customer service and the functions of the Council.
* Have good knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety legislation and regulations, their implications for the organisation and the employee, and their application in the workplace.
* Possess a current unendorsed full driving licence (Category A1, A, and/or B) as they may be required to drive in the course of their duties.

Working Conditions:
* The office is whole-time, temporary, and pensionable.
* The contract is for a fixed term of three years.
Benefits:
* Annual leave entitlement for this position is 24 days.
* Hours of work: The successful candidate's normal hours of work will be 35 hours per week.
* The Council reserves the right to alter your hours of work from time to time.
