The Head of Employment Law leads and manages the Employment Law service in the organisation, including the development of in-house capacity to provide a legal advice service to the Executive and the Senior Leadership Team of An Garda Sochna on the full spectrum of employment related matters. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Providing specialist advices on employment and human resource issues within An Garda Sochna inter alia, providing timely, effective and robust legal advice and assistance on disciplinary, grievance, bullying and harassment policies and related matters, sick leave, performance issues, suspension and dismissal, to An Garda Sochna. Leading and managing a team of legal professionals and support staff to provide timely and effective legal advice and instructions to the Garda Commissioner and Organisation. Developing and leading a service for the provision of in-house legal advice on employment law issues dealing with both contentious and non-contentious employment law matters. Advising the Senior Leadership Team on the legal implications of key decisions and policy proposals in relation to employment law. Reviewing and, in consultation with other senior stakeholders, advising on policy and procedures on employment law matters to ensure they meet organisational needs in the context of the significant Garda reform agenda, including upcoming legislative changes. Ensuring relevant members and staff are kept up to date with the requisite legal knowledge and developments in the area of employment law. Providing expert advices in relation to complex and sensitive employment law matters under the Protected Disclosures Act, 2014. Advising on the drafting and review of the full spectrum of employment documentation including fixed term and specified purpose contracts. Reviewing and advising on employment law compliance within the organisation in respect of policies, procedures and HQ Directives and proactively identifying and managing any associated risks. Briefing external legal professionals and/or other experts, where necessary. Instructing the Office of the Chief State Solicitor on behalf of the Commissioner in respect of all Courts and quasi-judicial bodies. Experience of case management systems.
