Ad Astra Fellow - Assistant Professor in One Health
The UCD School of History invites applications for an Ad Astra Fellow in 'One Health', a transdisciplinary academic field that brings together medical and veterinary scientists with humanities thinkers to understand the roots of ecological and planetary interconnectedness.
A key aspect of this role will be to develop a research program focused on Africa or South America, exploring topics such as disease circuits, colonial and postcolonial power relations, and pest and biological controls. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to ongoing discussions about how to uncover new types of non-human environmental data sets (archives), represent non-speaking subjects, and demonstrate the centrality of narrative, cultural forms, and discursive systems to the construction, representation and dissemination of knowledge.
This five-year appointment includes one funded PhD studentship, an annual research budget of €5000, and a reduced teaching load. The successful candidate will be expected to publish in international peer-reviewed journals, participate in conferences and workshops, supervise an Ad Astra PhD candidate, and develop partnerships with relevant research groups across UCD.
Long-term goals include training a new generation of researchers in inter- and trans-disciplinary One Health methodologies, developing undergraduate and graduate taught programmes aimed at practitioners and researchers, forging links with international health organisations and internal researchers, and fostering a cluster of PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.
