The Opportunity
Based at our new Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) manufacturing facility in Kilkenny, Ireland the site’s Operation System Engineering function currently has an opportunity for a Controls Engineering Team Lead to join their expanding team. The team supports the ongoing development, validation, deployment, and support of data systems which integrate into our manufacturing operations, enabling ADC to provide innovative state-of-the-art solutions that facilitate the company’s Factory 4.0 initiatives.
As the Controls Engineering Team Lead, you will be primarily responsible for managing a team of engineers to support sourcing, qualification, production support, and maintenance of Automated Manufacturing Equipment and their underlying control systems. The Controls Engineering Team Lead will be a subject matter expert for all machine controls systems including PLCs, HMIs, Line Controllers, Scada Systems, Interface Systems, and machine control devices at the site.
Responsibilities
1. Manages a team of controls, systems and vision engineers
2. Provides technical leadership on all controls engineering topics
3. Supports in-production Automated Manufacturing Equipment
4. Troubleshoots and solves problems with processes and hardware
5. Plans preventive maintenance of controls systems
6. Coordinates with others in order to investigate problems and implement solutions
7. Provides technical assistance as needed by internal customers
8. Manages relations with vendors
9. Defines performance metrics
10. Supports qualification and validation activities
11. Leads projects to specify and implement new processes and process improvements
Education and Experience
1. Level 7 NFQ qualification in Automation, Mechatronics, Computer science, Electrical engineering, Electronic engineering or equivalent experience
2. 6+ years of in a similar position
3. Experience managing teams and projects
4. Experience with Allen Bradley Controllogix PLCs and Siemens TIA portal
5. Experience with developing users and system requirements specifications
6. Experience in controls system development and deployment
7. Experience in software testing, verification, and validation
8. Experience with supporting manufacturing systems
9. Excellent problem solving skills
10. Experience with controlling and implementing software changes
11. Demonstrated ability to effectively integrate information from varied disciplines and work within a highly regulated environment
Preferred Qualifications
1. Master’s Degree in Engineering (Systems, Mechanical, Computer, Electrical, Biomedical, or Software), or related discipline
2. Experience working in the medical device industry
3. Experience with line controllers, SCADA, MES systems.
