The Appointment
The Galway Steiner Kindergarten is seeking an Early Years Educator/AIM Support Worker to join its small team. The position is offered as a fixed-term contract for a period of 10 months, with a provisional start date of 28th August 2024. A probationary period of 3 months applies.
Hours: The working hours for this role are Mon to Friday 9am to 3pm (TBC) during term time.
Location: The position is based in Galway Steiner Kindergarten in Na Blátha Craige, Upper Clybaun Road, Knocknacarra, Galway.
Team: The AIM Support Worker will be part of a small team supporting the Lead Educator/Manager and Classroom Educator. The Team is supported by a Board of Directors made up of parents.
Roles and Responsibilities
The Role:
1. Support children's development social, emotional, physical, and cognitive in carrying out activities.
2. Support Lead Educator in planning and implementing developmentally suitable activities in line with the Steiner/Waldorf philosophy.
3. Support children in their free play as competent and confident learners.
4. Support the Lead Educator in ensuring the ethos of the service is in line with ideals of Waldorf/Steiner philosophy.
5. Maintain room and equipment to ensure health and safety of children at all times.
6. Support the team in organising, cleaning, and maintaining the environment to the benefit of all children.
7. Follow the policies and procedures of the service at all times.
8. Attend meetings and undergo training as required.
9. Perform other reasonable and relevant duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Essential Criteria:
1. QQI level 5/6 qualification (or equivalent) in Early Childhood Education & Care.
2. Fluent English.
3. Ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative.
4. Kindness, warmth, and responsiveness to the needs of the children in your care.
5. Strong work ethic.
6. Excellent communication skills.
7. Love of the outdoors.
8. Ability to support and guide children during free play.
9. Ability to work in partnership with parents and staff, keeping the child at the heart at all times.
10. Naturally warm and respectful towards children and their individual needs.
Desirable Criteria:
1. QQI level 7 (or equivalent) in Early Childhood Education & Care.
2. Two years working experience in a preschool setting.
3. Experience using music and the Arts in an educational setting.
