Job Description
Cpl Healthcare is partnering with the Irish Prison Service to recruit an experienced Prison Pharmacist to contribute to the provision of prison pharmacy services.
Key Responsibilities
* Undertake regular audits of prescribing practice within IPS to ensure compliance with relevant policy and guidance.
* Participate in the development, implementation, and audit of guidelines related to the use of medicines.
* Provide expert advice on the use of specialist medicines, including those used to treat Hep C and ARVs.
* Support the IPS Covid vaccination program in terms of logistics, medication management, safety, and pharmacovigilance.
Additional Duties
* Provide advice to medical and nursing staff on the proper and economic use of drugs and medicines.
* Evaluate and manage risks associated with the use of medicines and participate in the NIMS process.
* Participate in multidisciplinary committees, such as the IPS Drugs & Therapeutics committee.
* Conduct audits and research to promote medicines safety and minimize error.
* Assist with tender documentation and competitions for prison pharmacy services.
* Oversight and management of all IPS pharmacy service contracts.
* Provide medication information and training to prison healthcare staff.
* Visit prison pharmacy areas to ensure proper medication storage, recording, etc.
* Maintain professional competency through Continued Professional Development.
* Undertake other duties as assigned by the office.
* Work as a member of the IPS HQ healthcare team.
Requirements
* Registration as a Pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) or eligibility to be registered.
* At least two years of satisfactory post-registration experience.
* Requisite knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the office's duties.
* Demonstrate up-to-date pharmaceutical knowledge and skills.
* Patient-centered focus.
* Experience of medication and prescribing audit.
* Good interpersonal skills and proven written and verbal communication abilities.
* Ability to work independently, prioritize, and manage multiple issues simultaneously, and demonstrate attention to detail.

Desirable Qualifications
* Knowledge and/or experience of vaccination programs.
* Knowledge and/or experience of Addiction Pharmacy Services.
* Knowledge and/or experience of Mental Health Pharmacy Services.
* Experience of policy development.
* Knowledge of the tender process.
