Financial Accountant Role – Insurance - Remote

ECCU is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Irish League of Credit Unions and provides group loan protection, life savings and death benefit insurance to affiliated credit unions in Ireland. The company has almost €17 billion in sums assured and writes approximately €75 million in premium annually. There is also a small book of business relating to a member pay guaranteed whole of life product provided directly to members of affiliated credit unions.
The Role
The successful candidate will be required to manage the production of all the financial accounting and regulatory reporting information for ECCU, ensuring high quality financial control and reporting in a cost efficient and timely manner. This is a fantastic opportunity for a Qualified Accountant as the role offers excellent exposure across the business. It is a varied role requiring good organisation and multi-tasking skills. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager and working alongside another team member, you will be given all the necessary training. The role is full time (35 hours per week), with remote working and 1 day in the office per month (although based on site more frequently initially for training), with flexibility to work in the office more frequently or every day if required by the individual.
Reporting and Responsibilities
The role will report to the Finance Manager of ECCU Assurance Designated Activity Company.
Responsibilities will include:
* Preparation of monthly management accounts (to include the posting of all journals) and preparation of other information for presentation to the Audit Committee and Board.
* Preparation of monthly risk appetite monitoring report to monitor performance against the risk appetite statement.
* Preparation of Solvency II regulatory returns for the Central Bank of Ireland (“CBI”) and Prudential Regulation Authority (“PRA”), as well as other branch reporting requirements.
* Preparation of annual statutory financial statements.
* Sustainability reporting.
* Assist with annual external audit and audit queries, as well as any ongoing internal audits.
* Ensuring invoices, claims and commissions are authorised for payment.
* Managing all aspects of payroll and pension contributions.
* Monthly cashflow forecasting.
* Collection of premiums via direct debit.
* Involvement in process of year-end tax computation and ensuring compliance with all Revenue related issues and any returns due.
* Manage reporting and flows of information with external actuary, reinsurers and investment manager.
* Monitoring of reinsurance arrangements.
* Monitor investment mandates, counterparty exposure and performance with benchmarks of funds managed by the external investment manager.
* Manage a portfolio of short-term deposits for liquidity and funding purposes.
* Review and assessment of all financial deliverables provided by outsourced Third Party Administrators (“TPA’s”).
* Ensure that robust financial and internal controls are in place and monitor on a periodic basis to ensure delivery of high standards of financial control within the Company. Review recommendations on improvements of controls and financial procedures.
* Focused on automation in the finance function and the application of new technologies, to include a project on changing the financial reporting system.
* Undertake such necessary research and other preparatory work on behalf of the Finance Manager with regard to meetings relating to the day-to-day running of the finance department. Prepare as required any minutes or reports arising from such meetings.
* Provide other support and assistance to the Finance Manager as required.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have the following credentials:
* A qualified accountant (i.e ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
* Experience of the insurance industry is desirable but not essential.
* Strong IT skills and proficient across the MS Office suite particularly in Excel.
* Have an ability to multitask and prioritise workload with attention to detail.
* Be a highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work under pressure achieve targets and meet strict deadlines.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Have excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
* Be proactive, have an enthusiastic attitude to work and be committed to continuous process improvement.
