This is an exciting role in the Broadcast Technical Team at Virgin Media Television. The Broadcast Engineer role will provide assistance to the technical operations team to ensure smooth delivery of Broadcast related systems!
Due to the nature of Television, this role involves irregular hours and weekend work.
Specific Duties & Tasks:
* Work closely with the Tech team to execute the strategic priorities within the Broadcast Engineering function.
* Liaise with the Technical, Production teams and Operations colleagues on all broadcast systems.
* Participate in, and lead where appropriate, projects to investigate and deliver alternative ways of working.
* Regularly review workflows, resources within broadcast function and make recommendations in line with production requirements and business needs.
* Provide assistance to the technical/operations team as required.
* Develop the engineering team’s tech capability on systems to ensure operational competence across all shift patterns.
* Become fully acquainted with emergency and disaster recovery procedures to ensure safe operation and rapid deployment of alternative services.
* Drive and support the development of the Broadcast capability to ensure operational competence across all shift patterns.
* Liaise with 3rd party contractors to ensure successful delivery of Broadcast related projects.
* Implement workflow design documentation procedures, ensuring that the Broadcast operational and technical workflows are fully documented.
* Identify preventative maintenance schedules for approval by Broadcast Lead.

Skills & Expertise:
* Must possess a high degree of technical proficiency in Broadcast and IT systems including knowledge of Microsoft, Linux, Networking administration, VMware, Cisco, Transcoding, Streaming, Storage, Cloud computing, and post-production workflows.
* Knowledge of television production processes including file-based technologies.
* Good disposition to keep calm under pressure and the ability to plan a recovery.
* Documentation skills and ease with sharing knowledge.
* An understanding of Health and Safety in a technical operational environment.
