RecruitmentPlus, on behalf of our client, has a great position available for a Counter Sales Assistant in a well-known and thriving timber supplier. This role involves dealing with tradespeople, hardware retailers, and assisting the general public with queries. The successful candidate will have good customer service skills and a helpful attitude, with the knowledge to advise customers on suitable products.
This is a great position working Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5:30 pm, with an earlier finish on Fridays and a competitive salary based on experience. Some Saturdays from 8 am to 12 noon may be required.
Requirements:
* Previous experience in building trades/supplies/DIY/hardware with knowledge of products, ideally timber
* Deliver excellent customer service at all times, both face-to-face and over the telephone
* Ability to listen to requirements and advise on suitable products while working in a fast-paced environment
* Able to carry out simple calculations on a calculator
* A team player who works productively with a wide range of people and can handle difficult customers with diplomacy and tact
* Understanding of basic inventory, warehousing, and stocking procedures, capable of following written instructions and documented procedures with accuracy and attention to detail
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
* Service customers at the counter by taking orders and processing them accurately while solving or finding someone to quickly solve customers' problems
* Provide product, pricing, and availability information to customers
* Respond to sales inquiries either by phone or over the counter, providing advice, information, quotations, and ensuring the maximum level of sales and margin
* Follow company pricing and credit guidelines
* Keep customers updated on orders and deliveries
* Monitor customer orders and deliveries
* Increase sales and average order size through cross-selling, up-selling, add-on sales, and offering promotional sales items as well as new products
* Handle customer complaints and returns while showing a positive attitude
* Keep merchandising and counter areas clean and attractive
* General store upkeep – maintain stock levels ensuring that all areas are full and merchandised correctly
* Participate in company-sponsored sales promotions
* Work with other departments to resolve customer service issues in a timely manner
