Job Title: Accountant – R2R VAT Accounting
Responsible to: Team Lead – R2R VAT Accounting
Job Purpose:
This role is an internal financial accounting and analysis compliance position working as part of the R2R Department within the GFS Shared Service Centre.
Overall Responsibility:
Complete VAT Reconciliations and Analytics, SAP Journals and Intercompany Recharges for all markets managed by GFS.
Provide accounting and compliance support to the Indirect Tax department.
Collaborate and liaise with the Indirect Tax team on adjustments/queries relating to VAT postings.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
* Understanding of VAT processes, returns, and related journals to ensure accurate VAT position in US GAAP General Ledger.
* Responsible for monthly US GAAP financial reporting of VAT.
* Process Control – ensure accurate completion of all compliance work. Follow-up and resolve any errors or exceptions affecting US GAAP or Local GAAP Financial Statements.
* Focus on quality to ensure compliance with corporate policy and statutory requirements.
* Provide business units, GFS departments, and GFS VAT Compliance Team with accurate and practical VAT-related accounting advice.
* Manage errors and their aging to minimize financial impact and avoid non-compliance with internal and external audits.
* Maintain and monitor processes and systems – ensure GL processes and systems are efficient, accurate, up-to-date, and comply with regulatory requirements.
* Assist in quality assurance processes to ensure SSC meets service level requirements for VAT & GL.
* Prepare for and attend Balance Sheet Reviews and deal with action items or follow-up queries.
* Complete commentary for quarterly VAT analytics on account variances.
* Complete all PBC items required for internal and external audits and deal with follow-up queries.
* Assist the Indirect Tax team with accounting queries arising from a Tax Audit.
Education, Skills, and Experience Required:
Education:
• University Degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting
• Member of a Professional Accountancy body preferred
• Will consider candidates who are part qualified
Skills & Experience:
* Challenging mindset – ability to understand processes and question balances.
* Solid accounting background with desire to develop greater VAT knowledge.
* Ability to develop and enforce strong control environment.
* Strong analytical skills and ability to provide oversight of VAT position month-by-month.
* Accounting experience required, preferably in a multi-national environment or large accountancy firm.
* Ability to work under pressure and to continual deadlines.
* Ability to communicate clearly with global stakeholders including explaining complex accounting rules.
* ERP experience, particularly SAP, is desirable.
* Strong accounting, interpersonal, analytical thinking, and organizational skills.
