Salary: Appointment will be made on the Medical Scientist Scale (€43,892 - €71,552, LSI1 €72,938) at a point in line with Government pay policy
Hours of work: Full-Time, 35 hours per week

ResponsibilitiesPrincipal Duties & Responsibilities: To report to the Chief Medical Scientist in the Microbiology Department.
However, the chosen candidate may be required to report on a day-to-day basis to the designated Senior Medical Scientist.To observe the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of patient or Hospital information.To perform scientific procedures and all associated work, to the highest professional standard as determined by the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist.To participate in training and supervision of new and existing staff and students as required.To actively participate in CPD programmes and maintain up-to-date knowledge and promote continuing education and research activities consistent with the post.To co-operate in evaluating equipment, consumables, reagents, and processes and to participate in research projects.In co-operation with the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist/designated senior staff, to ensure appropriate compliance with International and National Guidelines and Standards, for the provision of Microbiology laboratory services.To actively participate in maintaining and developing the QMS system in compliance with ISO15189, including active participation in internal and external quality assurance.To actively participate in the accreditation process in the department including the Joint Review process.To participate in ensuring that effective safety procedures are in place to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act and to assist and co-operate with the Laboratory Management team in developing procedures to be followed in preventing and managing accidents occurring in the work area.To co-operate with and promote excellent hygiene standards in the workplace.To perform such other duties appropriate to the office as may be assigned to him/her by an officer designated by the Board in consultation with the Consultant in Charge/Chief Medical Scientist.The job description is an outline of the post as it is currently perceived by the hospital and will be subject to review and amendment.
This job description will therefore be subject to change in light of the various strategies for the hospital and the development of the Clinical Directorate model and any future developments that arise and will evolve and change over time. QualificationsMandatory: Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc:(a) Candidates for appointment must:(i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.OR(ii) Applicants who satisfy the conditions set out in Section 91 of the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005, must submit proof of application for registration with the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.(iii) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.(iv) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.
Applicable to Section 38 applicants only.Annual registration * (Applicable to Section 38 Applicants only):(i) On appointment practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).Health:Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
