Fire Prevention Officer
We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Prevention Officer to join our team at Team Horizon in Galway.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Fire Risk Assessment: Advise on the suitability of equipment to reduce risks within the organisation, aiming to standardise products in consultation with the Procurement Team.
2. Reporting: Provide regular reports to managers and relevant committees on areas of fire and infrastructural risk where action is required.
3. Accident Investigation: Receive copies of accident reports, investigate as necessary, and provide reports for accidents investigated.
4. Committee Membership: Be a member of the Integrated Quality and Risk committee and participate in other groups as necessary.
5. Contractor Monitoring: Monitor and report on the health and safety performance of external contractors engaged on Construction related activity on the organisation's premises.
6. Emergency Planning: Assist in setting up and amending Emergency Plans.
7. Fire Safety Expenditure: Provide input into planning expenditure in relation to Fire Safety, highlighting and prioritising essential works required.
8. Regular Inspections: Conduct regular inspections of buildings, means of escape, and fire-fighting equipment, ensuring proper location, marking, repair, and operation.
9. Fire Orders and Evacuation Schemes: Review and draw up fire orders, including evacuation schemes for various types of buildings and institutions.
10. Fire Hazard Prevention: Instruct staff in avoidance of fire hazards, summoning the fire brigade, operating the fire alarm and fire equipment, and means of escape.
11. Fire Drills: Arrange regular fire drills in each location, ensuring proper execution.
12. Water Supply: Monitor the water supply in all divisions of each institution, ensuring sufficient volume and pressure for firefighting purposes.
13. Fire Protection Standards: Advise on interpretation of Fire Protection Standards and Building Regulations issued by Government Departments, ensuring implementation.
14. Maintenance of Means of Escape: Ensure that means of escape are always safe and adequate, kept operative, and clearly indicated.
15. Record Keeping: Maintain proper records of inspections, fires, evacuation drills, fire-fighting equipment, and other matters relating to the office as Fire Prevention Officer.
16. Reporting: Report in writing to the Engineering Manager on the state of fire prevention services in the organisation's buildings and premises, at three-monthly intervals.
17. Annual Report: Prepare an annual report on all aspects of fire and safety pertaining to the organisation's property, if directed.
18. Implementation of Fire Prevention Work Programmes: Arrange to have fire prevention work programmes implemented under the direction of the Engineering Manager.
19. Risk Management: Monitor and report on the management of Health Safety and Infrastructural Risk issues of the organisation.
20. Training Requirements: Assess continuous professional training requirements for staff in the area, advise the Engineering Manager, and coordinate training courses.
21. Safety Management Programme: Monitor the performance and implementation of the organisation's Safety Management programme through regular spot checks and analysis of safety audit reports and accident returns.
22. Information Source: Act as an information source and resource to management and staff on fire safety, general safety, health, and welfare matters.
23. Risk Assessment: Participate in the risk assessment process and inspection within the area of fire maintenance and infrastructural risk, assisting in the development of health and safety training programmes for maintenance staff.
24. Risk Management: Identify, assess, manage, and monitor risk within their area of responsibility.
Requirements:
* Hold a HETAC level 7 qualification (NQF) in engineering, fire engineering, architecture, Health and Safety, or Building Services/Building Survey.
* Hold an equivalent qualification.
* Have two years' experience in a comparable Fire and Safety role.
* Be proficient in Microsoft Office.
