Job Description:
Care Staff Role
The primary role and responsibility of Care Staff is to enhance the lives of Residents by working effectively with all staff involved in Resident care at Stewarts Care.
Care Staff are a member of the Resident Services team, delivering support in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team and relevant stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supervise residents in daily life activities, ensuring their safety and the safety of others on and off sections, including outdoor activities according to Stewarts Care Policy.
* Ensure that efforts are made to cater for the physical and emotional needs of residents, providing the highest quality of care.
* Assist in the day-to-day running of sections, maintaining the highest professional standards and care.
* Support resident training, observing and reporting on residents as requested by nursing staff and other personnel.
* Participate in client assessment and program implementation.
* Acompany residents to outside clinics, hospitals, or centres for specialised treatment or care, providing preliminary verbal reports upon return.
* Implement nursing treatment as directed.
* Induct new Care Staff into Residents and general routine.
* Accept delegated responsibility for residents when requested by the Manager/Social Care Worker or Nurse in Charge.
* Attend In-service Training Programmes and lectures on service user development.
* Participate in Fire Prevention and Emergency Training Sessions, becoming conversant with them and implementing fire orders as per appointment letter.
* Maintain confidentiality and hygiene in assigned areas.
* Undertake training for safe medication administration.
* Administer medication in line with organisational policy.
* Participate in leisure activities, such as swimming pool activities, cooking, cleaning, and driving, in support of residents or day attenders.
Requirements:
* Demonstrate sufficient competency and professional knowledge to carry out duties and responsibilities.
* Hold QQI Level 5 (Healthcare Support) or SKILL-VEC Level 5 or equivalent.
* Possess one year's experience in disability work, if applicable.
* Exhibit excellent communication skills.
* Have knowledge of HIQA, the Health Act 2007-2013, Progressing Disability Services for children and young people, New Directions & Mental Health in Intellectual Disability.
* Show flexibility to work in all Resident Services areas.
* Display creativity in using community resources, problem-solving, and supporting service user needs.
* Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, good planning, and time management skills.
