Job Purpose:
This post has been developed in response to national initiatives to utilise nurse-led triage to manage the endoscopy waiting list most efficiently. The purpose of this post is to provide an Endoscopy Referral Triage service. This service will ensure optimal and efficient use of Endoscopy capacity in the hospital. The CNM2 for High Risk Pre-Assessment and Referral Validation (Endoscopy Triage) will have detailed knowledge of the care and treatment of patients referred to the GI service. They will work as a key member of the multidisciplinary team providing support to the GI unit and patients using the service. The aim of the role is to help ensure that patients who are referred to the endoscopy service receive appropriate, high quality care, and avoid unnecessary procedures. The post holder will be responsible for the assessment of a subset of patients referred for endoscopy procedure, scheduled patients with comorbidities or complicated planned procedures where preparation is required, prior to their procedure on the GI Unit. This is to ensure that patients arrive for their appointment educated, informed, prepared and that the procedure is appropriate. Reducing the DNA rate forms part of the role in order to provide extra scheduling appointments and reduce waiting time for endoscopic procedures.
