Grade II Inspector - Energy Safety
This role is based in Ireland and involves managing a team of direct reports, creating a positive working environment, and supporting their professional and personal development.
Key Responsibilities:
* Carry out inspections, market surveillance, and investigations within the relevant area, inputting findings into designated platforms according to a defined program of work.
* Prepare and deliver reports and updates to relevant managers on team performance, highlighting corrective actions taken to address issues of concern.
* Initiate and develop key policy initiatives for assigned sectors or legislative areas, contributing to the development of national or EU policy initiatives.
* Collaborate with stakeholders to share data, expertise, insights, and advisory support, ensuring alignment across the authority as required.
* Draft policy and guidance documentation, engaging with colleagues for feedback while ensuring end-user focus.
* Review and prepare technical assessments and reports in accordance with legislative requirements.
* Engage with national stakeholder groups within relevant sectors or policy areas.
* Interact with national market surveillance stakeholders and customs authorities.
* Represent the authority at relevant EU forums.
* Conduct research on existing policy and thought leadership to understand leading practices applicable in an Irish context.
Requirements:
Essential:
* Hold a primary degree (NFQ level 8 or equivalent) in Engineering, Science, or another appropriate discipline.
* Possess a minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience.
* Display knowledge and understanding of process safety instrumentation and equipment operation.
* Have experience in a process industry, civil, mechanical engineering, or gas pipelines/network environment.
* Show working knowledge of relevant gas standards, codes of practice, and international best practices in the gas industry.
* Exhibit experience in safety management systems, hazard analysis, risk assessment, mitigation, and control in gas safety.
* Possess a full driving license (Category B).
* Demonstrate possession of required competencies for the role as outlined in Appendix 1.
Desirable:
* A recognized qualification at Diploma level or higher in Occupational Safety and Health.
* Qualification in general management.
* Experience in staff management.
* Experience in inspection, investigation, policy, enforcement, or prosecution functions.
* Relevant experience in the gas industry.
* Experience of pipeline surveillance, defect assessment, welding, non-destructive testing, hydro-testing, pipeline inspection.
* Experience of equipment commissioning and qualification of equipment.
* Experience of participating in technical working groups.
* Experience of facilitating productive relationships with external stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
