Job Overview The Head of Research and Development (R&D) leads the strategic planning and execution of innovative projects, ensuring they align with the company's goals.
They manage the R&D team, oversee budgets, and ensure compliance with industry regulations while fostering a culture of innovation.
Responsibilities and Duties Develop and implement R&D strategies and initiatives.
Lead and manage R&D projects from concept to commercialisation.
Oversee the research and development team, providing guidance and support.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Ops, Sales, and Production.
Monitor and analyse industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and safety standards.
Manage the R&D budget and allocate resources effectively.
Evaluate and integrate new technologies and methodologies.
Prepare and present reports on project progress and outcomes.
Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Advanced degree in a related field such as IT, Engineering, Chemistry, or Biotechnology.
Proven experience in managing R&D projects and teams.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and standards.
Familiarity with project management tools and software.
Experience in strategic planning and budget management.
Ability to think creatively and innovate.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation.
Bachelor's degree in a related field, if appropriate.
Several years of experience in research and development.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong technical and scientific knowledge.
Proficiency in project management.
Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and environments.
KPI's Ensure any development projects or work is adhered to agreed time limits and budgets.
Maintain Development deliveries with external providers and ensure quality of delivery is as expected.
Establish project reviews and lessons learned within 3 months of the handover to business as usual.
This should include return on investment analysis.
Maintain 35 hours of industry training to comply with latest regulatory requirement.
Proactively provide advice to the board on its existing businesses and any new opportunities.
