Scope of the Role
Reporting to the Head of Technical and NPD, you will work as part of the technical team and develop close working relationships with all departments. The main focus of the role is to drive the delivery of Technical Standards across the sites’ Operations.
The role will ensure that the correct standards are understood by all relevant persons and effectively challenged, by way of Audit. This will underpin the sites Food Safety, Product Quality and Integrity – demonstrating leading standards.
Responsibilities
1. Ensure there is clarity of Technical Standards – which are effectively Communicated, Understood and Applied.
2. Work with all departments and colleagues to ensure that the food safety, quality, and legality of all products produced is always maintained, complying with customer specifications to ensure that products placed on the market are safe, compliant, and traceable.
3. Ensure that the Business develops an ‘Audit Ready’ Culture – to consistently deliver successful audit outcomes.
4. Provide technical expertise and advice in the areas of food safety and legislation, working together to overcome business challenges in a busy environment.
5. Drive continuous improvement through developing and progressing the current quality systems and operational processes within the business.
6. Manage, implement, and monitor the Food Safety Management system ensuring systems are HACCP based as appropriate, are communicated, understood and applied to meet Food Safety, Quality and Legality, and customer specified requirements.
7. Support the business with management of technical audits, hosting audits as appropriate.
8. Drive a culture of “fit to manufacture every day” readiness through the daily operational teams.
9. Manage response & close out of non-conformance reports from audits as required.
10. Lead, motivate and inspire the technical team in line with company values to achieve personal development and continuous improvement.
11. Develop and implement effective KPIs that measure, trend and identify issues to be communicated both internally and with customers.
12. Develop and agree action plans using root cause analysis to deliver continuous improvement.
13. As part of the site leadership team, ensure operational team promotion of a food safety culture within the factory environment.
14. Ensure that a safe working environment exists for all employees within the technical function, and that as a minimum, the standards set out in the site processes for Health and Safety are met.
Experience and Knowledge:
1. Level 8 degree, preferably in a food related discipline.
2. Significant experience within a Chilled Food environment and a good understanding of High Care, High Risk, RTE, RtRH and RTC disciplines.
3. Experience of managing food safety risks.
4. Experience of managing projects.
5. Experience managing people to achieve results is essential.
6. Experience working and implementing food safety management systems that comply with GFSI standards including BRC.
7. Solid leadership skills.
8. Clear and effective communicator.
9. IT literate, quick and agile in processing data (e.g., KPI’s).
10. Ability to work to strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment is essential.
