REPORTING TO: Head of Development Basketball Ireland/TUS Sports Recreation & Facilities Officer
INTRODUCTION: The successful candidate will be committed to providing participation opportunities for all sections of the community in various basketball activities. Working with organisations including local authorities, schools and governing bodies, the primary goal is to ensure that suitable programmes and training services are in place at local and national levels.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
MINIMUM: Candidates must:
1. A third level qualification in Sports Management, Coaching, Development, or related discipline.
2. Strong interpersonal skills and relationship management.
3. Ability to work off own initiative.
4. Be an effective part of a team.
5. Excellent IT skills.
6. Preference may be given to applicants with academic qualifications and strong IT skills.
DESIRABLE:
1. An interest in basketball and a passion for helping Basketball Ireland to grow the sport in the coming years.
2. A knowledge of the sport as it exists currently in Ireland.
3. A knowledge of the Irish sporting landscape, including Sport Ireland, TUS and the LSP network.

MAIN DUTIES: The duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Help to oversee the development and implementation of a dedicated strategy for regional development officers.
2. Complete monthly progress reports for the Board of Basketball Ireland.
3. Assist in coordinating the delivery of BI programmes.
4. Continue and progress existing Basketball Ireland development programmes including, but not exclusive to, Green Shoots, Jr. NBA, Urban Hoops, Mini Basketball 3x3, women in sport initiatives and the ‘Her World, Her Rules’ programme.
5. Propose, implement and report on new initiatives that serve to help further grow the sport of basketball in Ireland.
6. Actively participate in school visits within the region to help promote and grow the sport of basketball.
7. Develop relationships with external organisations including Local Sports Partnerships (LSP’s), county councils, colleges, schools, other NGB’s.
8. Represent Basketball Ireland at events around Ireland.
9. Take leadership in the organisation and running of all accredited Basketball Ireland Coaching Courses in conjunction with Coaching Ireland.
10. Work closely with other core departments within Basketball Ireland, including Competitions, Commercial and Media, to help grow and promote the game of basketball in Ireland.
11. Facilitating, developing, and fostering student participation in basketball.
12. Motivating and facilitating people within the community to take advantage of all opportunities to participate in basketball.
13. Assisting in all fundraising activities within the TUS Sports Office.
14. Assist with the management of the TUS Scholarship programme.
15. Responsibility for coordinating all the Basketball activities within the TUS Basketball club.
16. Working in partnership with schools, community groups and centres to increase access for young people to basketball.
17. Creating links between clubs, organisations and key agencies in local sport recreation.
18. Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
SALARY: Competitive
LOCATION: Based in Technological University of the Shannon (Midwest Campus) and covering Mid-West region
CONTRACT: Full-time, subject to a six-month probationary period.
