Overview
The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing policy and law reform initiatives on matters that are reflective of the public interest and the interests of the Organisation.
Key Aspects of the Role
* Conducting research
* Developing and drafting policy documents
* Devising and implementing lobbying strategies on matters that are a key strategic priority for the Organisation
Main Duties & Key Responsibilities
1. Conduct research and draft evidence-based and authoritative policy papers on policy topics that are a priority for the Organisation
2. Develop proposals for reform, underpinned by credible arguments, that are reflective of the public interest and the interests of members of the Organisation
3. Monitor developments in the external environment
4. Play a key role in advancing specific policy issues as may be assigned
5. Forge a strong and collaborative working relationship with members of Committees
6. Engage with the Council, the Director, and also colleagues in the Policy Department
7. Engage with policy makers, non-governmental organisations and other key stakeholders on matters of concern
8. Engage with other bodies on policy issues
9. Draft policy-related communications for Senior Leadership
10. Serve as Secretary to a Committee or Task Force
Knowledge & Skills Required
* A third-level qualification in law, politics, business or similar is required
* A professional qualification would be desirable
* At least two years' relevant experience in public affairs, policy development or experience as a political advisor or Parliamentary Assistant is required
* A strong understanding of the policy development and legislative processes in Ireland and the European Union is required
* Excellent writing and research skills are required
* Solution-oriented, highly collaborative and self-motivated
* Strong organisational and interpersonal skills are required
* An excellent command of written and spoken English is required
* A track record of success in handling competing priorities is required
