The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across a number of sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation, and transmission & distribution networks. About the role:
This role is to undertake the position of Project Supervisor for the Design Process (PSDP) in Ireland. You will support, advise, and assist a range of clients in carrying out their duties under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013 within the Energy Division of Mott MacDonald, including on key frameworks and other energy projects. Additionally, you will assist in carrying out design and project safety reviews, ensuring the application of the general principles of prevention and adherence to other Health & Safety legislation in Ireland.
Duties include:
* Prepare and maintain project level PSDP Compliance Strategies.
* Assist the Client in identifying and obtaining existing pre-construction information and manage such collation.
* Produce the Preliminary Health & Safety Plan and communicate to the Project Supervisor for the Construction Stage (PSCS).
* Liaison with the PSCS throughout the construction stage.
* Review existing information and identify areas where information is missing/required.
* Review and comment on designers’ hazard & risk information/support the project with management of the hazard registers.
* Maintain close links with designers and assist them in identifying and eliminating or controlling foreseeable risks to the health and safety of others.
* Undertake design safety kick-off meetings and design hazard review workshops.
* Work closely with Project Managers to guide them with producing designs that are safe to build, operate, maintain, and decommission.
* Support designers and constructors in safe-by-design principles and good safety working practices.
* Undertake the Project Safety Advisor (internal role) training and perform the role on Mott MacDonald projects.
* Assist in the review of Construction Phase Plans and Health & Safety Plans.
* Assist in the preparation of the Health and Safety File and Safety File.
* Support the Bid Manager in preparing responses to bids.
* Provide direction, instruction, and guidance for the purpose of safety-by-design and construction site safety where required.
* Complete site health & safety surveys and inspections where required.
About you:
The ideal candidate will ideally have the following:
* Relevant technical degree in a relevant technical subject such as engineering, energy, or construction.
* A recognised professional Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH Construction as a minimum but preferably higher such as NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ 4/5/6 or Degree in Health & Safety or Higher Diploma in Health & Safety.
* Chartership (or working towards) through a relevant organisation such as IET, CIOB, ICE, RICS, IOSH, CABE, RIBA, SCSI, Engineers Ireland, or similar.
* A successful track record and high degree of understanding and knowledge for a range of clients on the application of the PSDP roles to energy, construction, and infrastructure projects, specifically as a PSDP.
* Good level of technical and construction competence.
* Experience of high hazardous working environments.
* Experience in the full project life cycle through detailed design and into construction and handover.
* Proactive with good organisational capability.
* Excellent client-facing and communication skills.
* Keen to work in a collaborative environment.
* Ability to be self-assured, contribute to, and influence meetings.
* Experience of successfully working in a team.
* Ability to work to budgets and time constraints.
* Good technical writing skills.
* Ability to work with design teams to deliver large projects.
Other beneficial qualities include:
* Experience completing Health & Safety inspections and audits; and environmental management.
* Experience of ISO 45001 and other integrated management systems.
* CSCS, SafePass, BESC, or other similar competency cards.
* Understanding of BS5975:2019 and temporary works design in general.
* Experience in the Principal Designer (Advisor) / CDM / Health & Safety specialist role in the United Kingdom.
* Knowledge of CDM 2015 and the ability to support, advise, and assist clients in carrying out their duties under this regulation.
* Experience in carrying out design and project safety reviews in the UK.
* Willingness to undertake training, gain experience, and receive mentoring on the CDM 2015 process in the United Kingdom.
