Molecular Biologist will play a key support role to the Principal Research Scientist in the Molecular Biology Division (MBD).
The post will provide the candidate with hands on experience in the area of general laboratory practice with a focus on microbiology and molecular biology areas.
Molecular Biologist will become proficient in the area of handling of aerobic bacterial strains, recombinant protein expression and DNA manipulation techniques.
This role will also involve the daily upkeep of general laboratory stocks for the MBD area.
Other tasks may also be performed (such as simple biochemical assays) dependent on the workflow of the MBD lab The Molecular Biologist will play a key role in supporting R&D activities within our Molecular Biology Division.
This role is suited to a dynamic and motivated individual with a background in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related disciplines, and will contribute to the advancement of innovative biotechnology solutions within our business.
The successful candidate will support both routine and project-based work, and have the opportunity to work in a technically diverse and fast-paced environment.
This role is based on-site at our Bray facility, supporting day-to-day operations and longer-term development projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: • Support microbiology functions including preparation and autoclaving of media, and culturing of aerobic bacteria and yeast • Perform core molecular biology techniques such as transformation of and, plasmid DNA extraction, quality checks, and protein expression • Conduct protein purification and small-scale fermentation experiments to support R&D initiatives • Maintain laboratory operations including reagent stock management, buffer preparation, and consumable ordering • Ensure laboratory equipment is calibrated and documentation is maintained in accordance with ISO 9001:2008 standards • Prepare written reports, SOPs, and presentations; support process transfer from R&D to production scale • Monitor GMO compliance and adhere to all relevant EPA regulations • Maintain lab cleanliness and strict compliance with all Health & Safety (H&S) protocols • Support 5S and H&S team objectives Education and Experience required includes: • BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences or MSc in a related discipline • Industry research experience highly desirable • Practical knowledge of bioinformatics, PCR, gene cloning, electrophoresis, recombinant/native protein expression, and protein purification preferred • Appreciation for complex biological systems and an understanding of carbohydrate chemistry or food/beverage chemistry is an advantage Skills needed to succeed in the role include: • Excellent organizational and time-management skills • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions meticulously Please press Apply to submit your application.
