Job Title: CEDar Data Support Officer
Duration: Temporary Full-time position, 6 months (to be reviewed)
About the Role
The successful candidate will collect, collate, manage and disseminate robust spatial data sets to facilitate biodiversity initiatives (local, national and international).
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide a customer-focused Record Centre for Northern Ireland special data sets.
* Support the Environmental Recording Community to ensure a flow of validated, fit-for-purpose data.
* Manage and maintain data sets.
* Manage and maintain existing and new web products for customers.
* Enable access to data (and information) by various audiences.
* Assist with current web-based and social media requirements as needed.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should have:
* A degree or equivalent qualification in Geography, Science (Botany, Zoology, Geology), Environmental Science or a related subject(s).
* At least six months' experience of database applications, including experience of working with large spread-sheets that contain multiple rows and columns.
* Knowledge of spatial referencing systems, map reading skills, and associated working knowledge of the Irish- and UK-grid based systems.
* Competence in MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and GIS applications.
* R programming experience is an asset.
* The ability to interpret written and numerical information.
* The ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimum supervision.
Desirable Skills:
* A proven interest in natural history.
* Knowledge of biological recording.
* Direct experience of verification of environmental records of any species group.
