This is a full-time position over a one-year fixed term in the Communications & Marketing Department. Reporting to the Communications & Media Manager, the Digital Engagement and Communications Officer will work in collaboration with the Communications & Marketing team to help grow the Abbey Theatre’s brand presence primarily through organic digital media.
The Digital Engagement and Communications Officer will work closely with the Communications and Media Officer. There will be some shared responsibilities between both of these roles to optimise team capacity and ensure an appropriate level of team flexibility and cover.
The Digital Engagement and Communications Officer will have input to / develop and execute a refreshed digital engagement strategy for the Abbey Theatre, while working on a range of campaigns. They will develop a sense of ownership of the Abbey Theatre’s social media channels, overseeing Instagram, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube and other platforms, should these emerge. They will distil the essence of the refreshed Abbey Theatre brand into a compelling and sustainable digital presence, supported by thoughtful, engaging, insightful, inventive, informative and provocative social media content. They will have capacity to create content across a range of mediums, including copy, photography, video and podcast with experience using industry standard tools. They will provide social media support to the Sales, Events and Development Teams. The right candidate will have an instinct for storytelling, and the skills to deliver creative campaigns and effective audience engagement.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties include but are not limited to:
Digital Engagement:
1. Develop the Abbey’s online voice, through integrated digital engagement plans for the Abbey Theatre, its productions and events, in collaboration with the wider Marketing and Communications team, inspired the Abbey Theatre’s recent brand refresh.
2. Manage and execute a calendar of engagement and content plan across the Abbey Theatre’s platforms (X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, website, etc.) to engage a digital audience;
3. Develop strategies to expand the Abbey Theatre’s influencer outreach programme,
4. Online community management;
5. Propose digital engagement strategies that will help the growth of the Abbey Theatre’s online community, in line with key strategic plans and programming outputs;
6. Capturing and sharing content in real time from Abbey Theatre and third party events, including opening nights, launches, photocalls.
7. Adopt and adhere to the Abbey Theatre’s tone of voice with a view to creating a consistent voice and presence for the organisation.
8. Work closely with digital agency in devising creative and effective strategies for driving revenue across owned, earned and paid media;
9. Provide ongoing monitoring, analysis and tracking of campaign metrics;
10. Use Tessitura, our CRM system to its optimum to inform planning for campaign activities and to help understand our online audience;
11. Work with Google Analytics, Tessitura (as referenced above), Wordfly, Sprout and social media reporting tools; in order to provide insights which can be used to make better decisions in the future
12. Identify social media trends and provide recommendations; keep up with industry standards;
13. Day-to-day maintenance and production across social networks, with team support when necessary.
14. Take ownership as key advisor for internal and external stakeholders in relation to social media.
15. Develop and host periodic in-person events for arts and culture sector influencers around particular productions.
Content creation:
16. Ideate original and creative social media collateral to support brand storytelling.
17. Use tools such as, or similar to, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, Audacity, Garage Band and Canva to develop content in-house, including photography, videography, podcasting and limited graphic design.
Traditional media:
18. Support the Communications and Media Officer in select tasks, including but not limited press release distribution, proactive media pitching, responding to reactive media requests and acting as press liaison for on- and off-site interviews.
19. Provide support in the area of PR to the Communications Manager.
20. Build and develop positive relationships with key arts media
Audience Engagement:
21. Providing support for writing and content creation to support Abbey Theatre Departments and events including:
22. Sales and Box Office, Ancillary Sales, Memberships, Abbey Events, Abbey Tours, Abbey Experiences, Community and Education and Development.
23. Ensure other departments are supported to reflect the organisation’s tone and core messaging;
24. Initiate and execute impactful campaigns to represent the Abbey Theatre’s events and activities.
25. Development of communications materials including newsletters, e-zines, annual report;
26. Input into internal communications projects;
27. Monitoring, reporting and analysis of communications campaigns.
28. Plan and attend regular team meetings as required for Sales, Box Office, Events, Development and Communications Teams.
29. Identify new opportunities to enhance ancillary sales messaging for audiences.
