We are currently recruiting a Senior Environmental Health and Safety Advisor to join our team. This full-time permanent role would be ideally suited to an individual with a construction or trade background.
As the Senior Environmental Health and Safety Advisor, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and safety of our employees, protecting the environment, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. You will be a point of contact within the QEHS Department and strive to foster a culture that radiates positivity, inclusivity, and continual growth for all.
Key Responsibilities
1. You will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our EHS programs, working closely with cross-functional teams to promote a culture of safety and sustainability.
2. Leading and advising on M&E EHS practices.
3. Conduct regular inspections and site audits, reporting findings to site and senior management. Strict follow-up is required to ensure that actions are dealt with immediately.
4. Develop comprehensive guidelines, processes, and documentation to ensure the company's compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation.
5. Implement and enforce required standards to safeguard the well-being of employees and protect the environment.
6. Prepare and meticulously inspect Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) as well as Project Supervisor Construction Stage (PSCS) documentation to identify potential hazards and ensure safe work practices.
7. Conduct thorough administrative and site audits to verify adherence to contractual obligations, regulatory requirements, and EHS standards.
8. Monitor compliance among specialist subcontractors, agency personnel, and direct employees to maintain a safe working environment.
9. Foster relationships and maintain a positive proactive presence on-site to ensure strict compliance with EHS guidelines and regulations.
10. Lead and coordinate comprehensive accident investigations, ensuring thorough and timely reporting of incidents, utilising root cause analysis techniques to identify the underlying causes of accidents and near-misses. Implement practical and realistic corrective and preventive measures to enhance EHS performance.
11. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop and implement effective corrective and preventive measures to mitigate the risk of future incidents.
12. Ensure the company's continued compliance with all relevant regulatory standards, including ISO14001 and ISO45001.
13. Stay updated on changes in regulations and standards and adapt company practices accordingly.
14. Effectively manage and maintain employee training records in collaboration with the Training Department to ensure that all employees receive appropriate EHS training.
15. Prepare EHS reports for SMT and present reports where required, including monthly project KPI's.
16. Act as point of contact for the Head of EHS when required.
17. Perform any other duties as necessary to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the business, as directed by company leadership.
Skills & Knowledge Required
1. Diploma to NFQ 8 in Occupational H&S. Certificate to NFQ 6 Environmental Management.
2. Experienced in M&E Projects.
3. 7+ years' experience in a fast-paced commercial environment. Knowledge of Electrical, Mechanical and CSA preferably.
4. Internal/Lead System Auditing including Integrated Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001) would be highly desirable.
5. Up to date with Legislation, Standards, Guidance, Advice and Compliance.
6. Conscientious with a high attention to detail and an ability to multitask.
7. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with fluent English.
8. Experience with the Construction Regulations and CDM roles, with experience working with sub-contractors.
9. Ability to work well within strict deadlines.
10. Ability to be able to prepare Audits and EHS reports, to a high standard.
11. Proactive in identifying positive and negative acts, ability to follow through with realistic corrective and preventive actions.
12. Ability to lead and coordinate incident investigations and utilise root cause analysis.
