Project Engineer
The Project Engineer is a key role in Alstom's signalling projects, responsible for supporting onsite construction activities and project integration. The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Project Engineer to ensure the safe and timely delivery of complex projects.
The Project Engineer will be based on site, supporting the onsite construction activities and project integration activities. They will also be required to support the integration of the project design activities at one of our centres of excellence around the UK. The role has a client-facing dimension, supporting the Principal Project Engineer to resolve technical issues and the Project Management teams to achieve the on time delivery of the project.
The projects use a wide range of Alstom signalling technologies, including SMARTLOCK 400T system, Modular Control Systems and VHLC. These projects are multidiscipline, complex and strategically important to our clients. Our engineering teams are supporting some of the most significant projects within the UK, such as Bristol Resignalling, Crossrail, Felixstowe and the Leeds capacity enhancement.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage and undertake engineering activities within subcontract management, system definition, requirements capture, compliance management, integration of designs, construction integration, CDM (Construction, Design and Management Regulations), safety assurance activities, project programme, system validation, commissioning, handback and project closeout.
* Implement the organisation's engineering management system within the local project location and across multiple sites when required. Support the Principal Project Engineer with technical guidance, leadership, site safety and monitor the project's performance to maximise efficiencies and project delivery.
* Coordinate design activities between Design Delivery Managers, ensuring project disputes and challenges are resolved in a consistent way. Ensure suitable project plans are in place to support efficient resource management, staff development and succession planning to meet the requirements of the business and projects.
* Support the development of project technical instructions to enable the project methodology and the required installation activities. Perform technical inspections on a regular basis and take corrective action to resolve problems identified. Assist with the development of engineering design details based upon the project technical requirements.
* Mentor, coach and train other Project Engineers when required to support the businesses sustainability plan.
Requirements:
* Candidates should have good communication skills and be A1 audit competent.
* Possession of an Engineering Manager (Lead Engineer) qualification or a Project Engineer IRSE licence is essential.
* Experience of working in signalling design, installation or testing, with knowledge of railway construction methods and materials used.
* Ability to organise and manage a large number of complex tasks.
