Position Description The Generation Engineering department in ESB Engineering and Major Projects is the centre of engineering for ESB's generation businesses and also provides consultancy services in generation technology for external and international clients. We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Professional Engineer (Mechanical) within the Projects & Design Team in Generation Engineering. The successful candidate will support ESB in the delivery of new generation projects such as the development of new build zero and low carbon generating assets, support existing assets within ESB's plant portfolio and provide support for consultancy services for international clients. Key Responsibilities Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to the following: Manage mechanical projects from inception, specification, design reviews, procurement, validation, installation, commissioning and handover to partner or customer. Lead feasibility studies of mechanical projects and provide options and solutions in line with project business cases Lead the scoping of mechanical projects, define requirements and partner/customer needs. Assess and manage project and technical risks. Prepare plant specifications and evaluate tenders from a scope, quality and technical perspective. Carry out design reviews of new build and retrofit generating plant to maximise safety and reliability and minimise life cycle cost and technical risk. Act as PSDP contact person on nominated projects (training provided) Act as Lead Mechanical or Lead Engineer for projects, with responsibility to coordinate the overall engineering input to the project for the duration of the project Oversee the quality and health and safety compliance in the delivery of site construction and commissioning phase of projects. Review construction and commissioning plans, Method Statements, Risk Assessments and other associated documentation when in a site supervision role. Administer work permits where required. Supervise the construction and commissioning of mechanical systems to ensure they meet project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Keep informed of relevant technology advances in their area of expertise and promote their implementation where appropriate. Assist in the planning and coordination of team tasks across work streams. Assist in the development and reviewing of work of junior engineers within the team. Knowledge, Skills and Experience Proven track record of significant experience in the power generation industry. A minimum of 5 years' relevant experience is required. The candidate will possess competence in the area ofin design, construction, commissioning or operation of mechanical systems in power generation or related process industry. Experience working on the design, construction, commissioning or operations of with gas turbine technologyturbine technology, auxiliaries and and gas turbine balanacebalance of plant. Project engineering and project management skills Ability to make quality decisions and judgments. The candidate will possess strong time management and prioritisation skills Proficient computer skills including MS Office Well versed with Health, Safety and Environment Standards and procedures, including risk assessment skills Strong communication and report writing skills Full clean driving license Qualifications Essential Primary Degree in Mechanical (Level 8 NFQ) or equivalent relevant work experience. Desirable Chartered Engineering status with a recognised engineering institution or demonstrable evidence of progress towards same is preferred. PSDP or PSCS Training / Competency Location ESB Engineering and Major Projects, One Building DublinBuilding Dublin Airport / EMP Eastgate.
