Senior Speech and Language Therapist – CDNT
As a Senior Speech and Language Therapist on the Children’s Disability Network Team (CDNT) in Letterkenny, you will provide specialist support to children and young people with developmental disabilities. This role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, communication, and feeding disorders in children with complex needs.
Key Responsibilities of Senior Speech and Language Therapist
* Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate speech, language, and communication needs in children with a variety of developmental disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome.
* If FEDS-qualified, assess children with feeding, eating, drinking, and swallowing difficulties and develop tailored treatment plans.
* Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that support each child’s communication goals, utilizing evidence-based interventions.
* For children with feeding and swallowing issues, design interventions that ensure safety and improve oral-motor skills, coordinating with other specialists as needed.
* Monitor and document progress, adapting care plans to meet evolving needs and maintaining an outcomes-focused approach.
* Work closely with a multidisciplinary team (MDT) including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, and medical professionals to deliver a holistic care approach.
* Participate in team meetings, contribute to case discussions, and coordinate interventions for children with multiple needs.
* Provide training and resources to parents, caregivers, and other professionals on strategies to support the child’s communication and feeding skills at home and in school.
* Educate families on safe feeding techniques, if applicable, and promote techniques to generalize communication strategies across different settings.
* Maintain accurate and thorough records of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes.
* Ensure compliance with policies and procedures, including confidentiality, data protection, and safeguarding of children.
* Contribute to service development projects and quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing service delivery within the CDNT.
* Participate in clinical audits, research, and evaluation projects to support continuous learning and improvement.
Essential Qualifications and Experience of Senior Speech and Language Therapist
* Bachelors or Masters degree in Speech and Language Therapy from an accredited program.
* Registration with CORU or equivalent regulatory body.
* Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as an SLT, ideally with experience in pediatric settings and developmental disabilities.
* Proven expertise in managing a wide range of speech, language, and communication disorders.
* Preferable: FEDS (Feeding, Eating, Drinking, and Swallowing) qualification or advanced training in this area.
