The Role
The Law Department at South Dublin County Council provides comprehensive legal services and advice to the County Council in all areas of local government law, including property-based services, statutory enforcement, litigation, dispute resolution, procurement, commercial, and general legal advisory services.
South Dublin County Council is responsible for the enforcement of various regulatory codes, including control of dogs, litter, waste management, dangerous structures, derelict sites, standards in rented accommodation, and planning enforcement.
Advocacy services are also provided by the Law Department Solicitors in judicial review, circuit, and high court proceedings, together with file preparation and advocacy services for the Council's Finance Department for debt collection and financial recovery.
General advisory services are also provided to all departments within the Council under the direction of the Law Agent.
The Executive Solicitor will be required to work under the supervision and direction of the Law Agent. They will also be required to work independently under their initiative as circumstances demand.
Responsibilities
* To provide comprehensive legal services and advice to the County Council in all areas of local government law.
* To manage and coordinate the delivery of property-based conveyancing services, including the buying, selling, and letting of residential and commercial properties.
* To ensure the enforcement of various regulatory codes, including control of dogs, litter, waste management, dangerous structures, derelict sites, standards in rented accommodation, and planning enforcement.
* To provide advocacy services in judicial review, circuit, and high court proceedings.
* To prepare and present files for the Council's Finance Department for debt collection and financial recovery.
Requirements
* A Solicitor admitted and enrolled in the State.
* At least three years of satisfactory experience as a Solicitor, including adequate experience of conveyancing and court work.
* A high standard of professional training and experience.
* Excellent professional knowledge and skills.
* A knowledge of the legislation governing local authorities and statutory bodies, together with an understanding of public service organisation.
* Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of people.
* Good organisational and IT skills.
