Job Title: Childrens Activity Worker Company Hazel Hotel, Monasterevin, Based Hazel Hotel, Monasterevin, Co Kildare (Oscar Dawn Limited). Role Summary: The Childrens Activity Worker will support Children (anyone under the age of 18 years) within the Centre in response to the educational and developmental needs of each individual child. They will work both inside the accommodation centre and with outside agencies to ensure individual needs are met. Qualifications: Minimum QQI Level 7 in Childcare, Therapeutic Play, Social Care, Psychology or equivalent or an equivalent and appropriate qualification at the same level or above. Experience: It is essential for the Childrens Activity Worker to have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a childcare worker, childcare coordinator or equivalent. It is desirable that at least 1 year of experience in working with International Protection Residents, working with an NGO in a country in conflict, or any other experience where it would make you a suitable candidate for this post. Accountable to: The Centre Manager Responsibilities: The Childrens Activity Worker will support the Centre Manager and the Reception Officer in insuring that all child residents have an initial assessment of need as they come through reception. They will then assist in the development of a Person-Centred Plan for each child to address their educational and developmental needs. The Childrens Activity Worker will assist with and encouraged residents under the age of 18 years within the centre to have self-directed activities. This will support the children to adopt and integrate within their new country and to support the children in collaboration with the parents through the International Protection process and integration to Ireland. Accountability: To be the point of contact, and provide information for children, their parents, staff, and management concerning the needs of children within the Centre. To act as a mandated person within the description of the Children First Act 2015, and within the Horizon House Group Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy in collaboration with the Centre Manager. The Childrens Activity Worker will establish good working relationships with relevant State providers, support organisations and statutory and non-statutory agencies locally, to assist residents to achieve their person-centred plans for each child. This will be achieved in collaboration with the parents, legal guardian. To immediately discuss any chid protection or child welfare concerns with the manager and where directed to by the manager to liaise with TUSLA in good faith Under the direction of the Centre Manager, to provide supervision to other staff to ensure that they adequately identify, refer, and respond, as appropriate, to special reception needs of children within the accommodation centre. To provide information to the Centre Manager to support a child who would be more suited to a centre that caters for exceptionally vulnerable residents To plan and organise day to day activities for the children, this will include groups such as pre free education, Parent and toddler access to local supports and groups children, s groups, pre- schoolers, afterschool clubs and homework supervision. Supporting older children with exam studies and coordinating their access to study areas. To work with the Centre Manager to support child residents in any move to a more suitable accommodation in a timely manner. To ensure that links are built and maintained with local healthcare providers, schools, legal service providers, family and child support agencies, trauma counselling and other specialist services, NGOs and other civil society groups including religious organisations, where appropriate and in line with vulnerability assessments and the identified special needs of residents. The Childrens Activity Worker will communicate effectively with the Designated Liaison Person and the Head of Compliance in this regard, where necessary. Where necessary to discuss and read through the IPAS parental guide with parents who might struggle with understanding their responsibilities towards the care of their children while resident at the Centre. Health & Safety It is the responsibility of all staff to read and comply with the Safety, Health, and Welfare Manual in line with the Safety, Health, and Welfare Act 2005. It is the role of the Childrens Activity Worker to familiarise themselves with the Health & Safety documents, support their implementation and liaise with residents on this. The Company Safety, Health and Welfare Manual will be issued to all staff as part of the induction process. It is also available at reception any time. Fire Safety It is the responsibility of all staff to read the Fire Safety Policy and familiarise themselves with the Fire Evacuation procedures. All staff have a role to play in the Fire Safety within the premises and should familiarise themselves with theses procedures. The Fire Safety Policy will be issued to all staff as part of the induction process. It is also available at reception any time. The Childrens Activity Worker will have responsibility for the welfare of children at the centre in the event of a fire drill or an evacuation. Risk Assessment The Childrens Activity Worker will read the Risk Management Policy, understand the processes, and report all identified risks on the Company Risk Assessment Form. The Childrens Activity Worker may be asked to support residents with filling out and submitting complaints from time to time. As a Childcare Specialist, Social Worker at QQI level 7 or above and (or equivalent), the Childrens Activity Worker will be a Mandated Person under Children First 2011, The Childrens First Act 2015 and to adhere to the Childrens First National Guidance 2017. The Childrens Activity Worker will be expected to be well versed in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Persons at the Risk of Abuse 2014 and will adapt a No Tolerance, approach within the Horizon House Group. The Childrens Activity Worker in consultation with the Head of Compliance (Designated Officer) undertake the preliminary screening and the developing the individualised Safeguarding Plan, where vulnerability is identified. Where necessary and appropriate, the Childrens Activity Worker will risk assess, the activities of any person with special reception needs in developing and on-going review of the residents person-centred plans. Child Protection The Childrens Activity Worker must: hold a registration with CORU or equivalent, Hold an up-to-date training certificate in Children First (HSELand) Be garda vetted with no offences registered. Receive Supervision on a minimum of a bi-monthly basis from a suitably qualified person. Be familiar with the TUSLA reporting process for areas of concern.
