Amazon Web Services is seeking Senior Electrical Engineers to become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the implementation and technical evaluation of our designs and the continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center footprint.
Engineers at Amazon work to design resilient, cost-effective electrical distribution systems. They are responsible for achieving a world-class uptime for our customers, justifying and communicating the technical decisions we make to Sr. Management, and driving continuous advancements and improvements with our designs. They have hands-on electrical design and field experience, can design and operate electrical systems, and understand the critical equipment needs for a data center.
As an Engineer in this role, you will work with the Principals and Senior Electrical Engineers to drive the standardization of designs across the global region in production data centers and resolve open technical issues in the electrical space. You will participate in the research and development of new technologies and designs applicable to our products or services, write technical documentation for such projects, and travel internationally (up to 30%).
Your tasks include conceiving, initiating, and leading projects with widespread impact on infrastructure design, innovation, and implementation. You will achieve this by breaking down complex problems into straightforward and actionable solutions, working with internal teams to understand user requirements and challenges, and collaborating with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures, and countries.
Key job responsibilities include:
1. Producing clear and concise documentation such as detailed design specifications, drawings, white papers, wiring schematics, and diagrams.
2. Understanding and safeguarding the implementation of the Global Electrical Basis of Design (BoD) by driving standardization in the data center electrical designs.
3. Developing strategic solutions that meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements.
4. Defining project scope and providing technical support for information requests prior to and during innovation and research and development projects.
5. Working with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate electrical equipment.
6. Working on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and cumulative 5+ years of experience with industrial or commercial electrical design.
2. Excellent understanding of applicable regional electrical codes (NEC, CEC, ETCI, NFC, etc.).
3. In-depth understanding of critical data center electrical equipment, as well as good working knowledge of BIM and Revit.
4. Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
5. Ability to carry new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/construction.
6. 3+ years of experience directly related to data center or mission-critical facility design and Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer, or regional equivalent.
7. Detailed understanding of uninterruptible power sources, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, and automatic/static transfer switches.
8. Direct experience with the construction, operation, or maintenance of data centers, as well as basic understanding of mechanical equipment and system design.
9. Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
10. Possess leadership, problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and maintain high-quality standards.
