With multiple awards to our name, Larian Studios has proven that we’re dedicated to delivering high-quality role-playing games. As we move on to new projects, the studio that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking for a Writer to join the team and help us in crafting the high caliber games our fans have come to expect.
At Larian, a Writer is not just a dialogue writer, but a scene designer, a collaborator, and at heart - a player. They strive to create the breadth and richness of choice that we want to experience in games, and to give players the choices that makes them ask “Are they really going to allow me to do that?!” Only to discover that not only did we allow it, we built a whole alternative story path out of it.
Responsibilities
* Write and test complex branching dialogues that have player agency throughout and fulfill the narrative requirements set by Design, Writing, and Narrative Leads.
* Create memorable and unique character voices that are tonally accurate to the project, engaging to interact with, and believable.
* Deliver shippable dialogue that meets the standard set by the Writing Director and Creative Director with minimal rounds of feedback and minimal intervention.
* Collaborate with other teams on the design and execution of situations with a focus on advocating for storytelling.
* Maintain, troubleshoot, and track dialogues as they move through the pipeline, communicating regularly with other teams to find solutions for dialogue issues and content needs as and when they arise.
* Write texts for in-game non-dialogue elements, including tooltips, item descriptions, journal entries, UI elements, and other ancillary texts.
* Liaise with other teams to answer questions regarding dialogue and story elements.
* Any additional creative tasks required to support the storytelling of the project deemed appropriate by your Lead, the Writing Director, or the Creative Director.
Who We're Looking For
* You are an exceptional writer who can demonstrate your skills through past experience and our skills test.
* You are passionate about storytelling in games, and always put the player experience first.
* You have worked in a production-driven environment before.
* You seek feedback proactively, think critically about your own work, and are continuously working to improve your craft.
* You are able to write a range of interesting and believable characters, and to look for the unexpected angle in their stories.
* You are collaborative, and can demonstrate an ability to work well with others.
* You have experience pitching your ideas to others.
* You are fluent in written English.
Requirements
* To work in-office in the studio in which they are based.
* The ability and willingness to travel to other studios in order to work closely with other departments.
* The ability to quickly learn processes and tools (including the Larian engine and dialogue tools).
Traditionally we receive a high amount of interest in Writing positions so please bear with us if there is a delay in us getting back to you with news on your application.
