Production Fabrication Manager Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Assistant Fabrication Production Manager to support the Production Fabrication Manager in overseeing the fabrication process at Cental Engineering, Carlow.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring day-to-day operations run smoothly by assisting with team coordination, monitoring work quality, and maintaining safety standards.
They will also collaborate closely with the team to execute production plans and help resolve on-floor issues swiftly.
This role is ideal for a hands-on individual who is ready to step up into a leadership support role in a heavy-engineering modular build environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Support & Coordination: Assist the Production Manager / Fabrication Supervisor in leading and managing the fabrication team.
Organize daily tasks and allocate resources, ensuring production plans are executed efficiently.
Act as a point of contact for the team, relaying instructions and resolving any issues that arise during the production shift.
Work Monitoring:
Monitor the progress of fabrication work on the shop floor to ensure quality and efficiency targets are being met.
Report any deviations or issues to the Production Manager promptly to prevent delays or errors.
Quality Control:
Ensure that fabrication work adheres to technical drawings, design specifications, and quality standards.
Conduct basic quality checks and alert the supervisor of any non-conformities or potential rework areas.
Problem-Solving from Drawings:
Assist in reading and interpreting technical drawings to ensure work is completed accurately.
Support the supervisor in identifying and preventing potential issues related to design or fabrication by reviewing drawings and resolving discrepancies before fabrication begins.
Safety & Compliance:
Promote and enforce safety procedures on the shop floor, ensuring a safe working environment in line with QEHS regulations.
Monitor the teams adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards, immediately addressing any risks or hazards.
Material & Equipment Management:
Ensure that the team has the required materials, tools, and equipment for production tasks.
Coordinate with the supervisor to manage stock levels and report any shortages or equipment malfunctions.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities for improvement in the production process and suggest ideas to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety.
Participate in Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, including IL6S and TPM methodologies.
Team Development:
Support the development and training of fabrication team members, providing guidance on technical tasks and proper safety practices.
Assist in mentoring new team members and ensuring they understand production protocols and quality requirements.
Communication:
Maintain open communication with the Production Manager / Fabrication Supervisor regarding production progress, team performance, and any on-site challenges.
Foster a collaborative and positive team environment, encouraging teamwork and accountability.
Key Requirements:
Experience: Minimum 3+ years of experience in a fabrication or production environment, preferably within heavy-engineering or modular build industries.
Experience with interpreting technical drawings and ensuring compliance with production specifications.
Prior experience in a leadership or charge hand role is advantageous but not essential.
Skills:
Strong practical skills in fabrication and manufacturing processes, with a keen eye for detail and quality.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and assist in identifying potential issues before fabrication begins.
Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with supervisors and team members.
Basic problem-solving skills with the ability to act quickly and effectively on the shop floor.
Awareness of health, safety, and environmental standards in a production environment.
Leadership Potential:
