Job Title: Library & Legal Research Assistant
We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Library & Legal Research Assistant. The successful candidate will provide frontline support to Members of the Bar of Northern Ireland, assisting with legal research enquiries, processing requests, and maintaining an up-to-date library service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provide LIS support to Members, ensuring a first-class service is delivered that meets their specific information needs.
* Receive and process legal research enquiries, handling them efficiently and accurately from receipt to end billing.
* Identify authoritative data, extract relevant information, and present it in a comprehensible and organized form.
* Support Authority Gathering requests and Optimised Brief & Bundle Service (OBBS) in accordance with LIS procedures.
* Maintain an up-to-date legal information service, delivering effective and relevant Member services.
* Actively promote all aspects of the LIS to the membership, keeping them informed of available services and their benefits.
* Keep abreast of current topical legal information and developments, providing an informed response to members' enquiries.
Requirements:
* Minimum of 2 A-Levels (or equivalent) at grade C or above.
* English and Math GCSE or equivalent.
* Thorough working knowledge of technology, including online databases, internet research, and MS Office applications.
* A general understanding of legal process and primary & secondary legal materials.
* A minimum of 1 year's experience in working with knowledge, information, and research in a law library or as a paralegal.
Desirable Criteria:
* Good working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, especially in creating and manipulating electronic pdf documentation.
* Experience of Northern Ireland specific law-making processes and materials.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, be highly motivated and an energetic self-starter, and demonstrate an exacting attention to detail. They will also have strong personal management skills, analytical skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
