What’s the role?
We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Threat Mitigation and Risk Experience team. In this role, you will guide a team of engineers to investigate and mitigate various risk and fraud vectors that threaten our marketplace. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Engineering, Risk. This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Dublin office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Candidates living within commutable distance of our Dublin office may be the first to be considered. Learn more details about our work modes and workplace safety policies here.
What’s this team like at Etsy?
Risk Experience’s mission is to mitigate risk by closing various experience gaps prone to exploitation within the buyer and seller journey. This team is focused on adding friction to the buyer and user seller journey through user experience changes. Most members of the team are based in Dublin. Threat Mitigation’s mission is to investigate and mitigate various risk and fraud vectors that threaten our marketplace. This team is a reactive team that works closely with risk operations and risk analytics to tackle ongoing threats. Members on this team are located on the USA East Coast.
What does the day-to-day look like?
You will lead our team of 6 full-stack engineers.
You will set both our overall strategy and our near term priorities.
You will define the goals of the team and be responsible for communicating its impact to both technical and business collaborators.
This is a “front line” management position. You will actively participate in our team’s day to day work, from coordinating the regular sprint meetings to prioritizing external requests and incidents.
You will serve as a coach, mentor, and advocate for the engineers on the team.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role:
You have experience working in the Risk & Fraud domain, preferably in an e-commerce setting.
You have worked or led teams that handle reactive, interrupt-driven work.
You have experience adding friction to websites and mobile apps to deter fraudsters while balancing the needs of legitimate users.
You have the ability to make decisions in the face of ambiguous or changing priorities and goals.
You have a track record of using communications, facilitation, and active listening skills to foster a collaborative and inclusive culture on your team.
You are able to be flexible with your work hours so you can effectively collaborate with team members spanning Ireland, US East Coast, and US West Coast time zones.
