Job Title: Assistant Music Librarian
Grade: NCH Administrative Executive (PPC)
Role Location: National Concert Hall, Dublin. Due to the nature of this role considerable travel will be required on an ongoing basis to accommodate the orchestra and its programming commitments together with other business requirements both nationally and touring overseas.

Role Summary
The Assistant Music Librarian is responsible for the NSO music library, archive and information functions expected for a performance and broadcasting orchestra. To help develop and maintain the music library of printed music, the catalogue and other associated data.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting into the Music Librarian, the role of Assistant Music Librarian will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
1. Provide a first-class Music Librarian service and ensure excellent relations with musicians, production departments and other users of the orchestra.
2. Ensure the orchestra has the required performance materials for all activity.
3. To act as a main point of contact to the NCH Music Library, deputising for the Music Librarian as required.
4. To coordinate the movement of music between all locations that the orchestra is operating.
5. To ensure that any issues regarding supply of materials to artists and musicians are dealt with and communicated to the Head of Orchestra and Chorus, Orchestra Manager and Concerts & Planning Coordinator as necessary.
6. To provide backstage support and management at sessions as agreed with Orchestra Manager and on occasion be the representative of the management team.
7. To provide information and answer queries from orchestral members, freelance musicians, management and artists.
8. To assist the Music Librarian in maintaining the retention sets that we hold.
9. Make full use of computer-based systems within NCH as a means of accomplishing the demands of the post.
10. To assist the Orchestra Manager in orchestral administrative tasks when required such as tour preparation.
11. Undertake any such other duties as agreed with the Head of Orchestra and Chorus, Orchestra Manager or Music Librarian.
12. To be part of a dynamic Orchestra Team - and help where required particularly when busy.
13. To undertake domestic and overseas tours when required by the Head of Orchestra and Chorus.

Person Specification
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the below:
Essential
1. At least 1 year experience working in a music library.
2. A wide general knowledge of music and musicians, and knowledge of the repertoire of the National Symphony Orchestra.
3. An understanding of the major European musical languages.
4. Experience in the delivery and running of concerts.
5. The ability to hand-copy orchestral parts and use computer-based music notation systems as necessary.
6. The ability to apply high professional standards under pressure and work without supervision in order to meet strict deadlines.
7. Flexibility and adaptability to work in an ever-changing environment.
8. Capacity to effectively deputise for the Librarian when necessary.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills, especially when dealing with musicians, conductors, soloists and producers.
10. A willingness to work anti-social hours, including weeknights, bank holidays and weekends when necessary.
Desirable
1. Good experience of a broadcast orchestra environment
2. A suitable qualification in music, librarianship and/or music librarianship
3. Knowledge of international copyright laws

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to carry out successfully the duties of the role, as well as the behaviours, skills and knowledge required at Administrative Officer grade.
Pay
The NCH Administrative Executive (PPC) salary scale applies as follows:
€41,666 - €43,566 - €45,400 - €47,229 - €49,019 - €50,832 - €52,617 - €54,514
Please note that appointment will be made at the first point on this salary scale. The PPC pay scale will apply where the appointee is an existing civil or public servant appointed on or after 6th April 1995 and is required to make a personal pension contribution. It will also apply to new permanent employees and fixed term un-established employees.
