The Role:
The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Head of Transaction Legal – Americas for the purpose of executing the tasks and responsibilities associated with the legal team with a primary focus on managing transactions from letter of intent to final binding contract. Transaction Counsel candidates must have a legal and commercial background with experience in aircraft leasing and aircraft financing.
Key Responsibilities:
* Managing transactions through documentation phase to contract signature and closing.
* Accountability and ownership of multiple simultaneous commercial negotiations, often in different locations and time zones.
* Ensuring that all documentation is completed to meet deadlines and in accordance with Avolon standards and guidelines.
* Managing restructuring, dispute resolution and litigation matters.
* Being the front person for Avolon in contract negotiations with airlines, banks, aircraft buyers and sellers, manufacturers, and maintenance providers.
* Managing and coordinating input from technical, credit, finance and commercial departments into transaction negotiation and documentation.
* Appointing and managing external legal counsel in all relevant jurisdictions.
* Providing input and expertise in initial transaction structuring process.

Essential Skills and Experience:
* At least 3 years’ PQE as a solicitor or barrister.
* Experience in managing and negotiating aircraft financing and/or leasing transactions (preferably in the Americas region).
* A natural relationship builder, with the ability to quickly engender trust among stakeholders across multiple relationships.
* Previous experience of managing and developing multiple relationships, with excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
* Commercial awareness – holds customer expectation at core, ensuring best outcomes are achieved both for the customer and for Avolon.
* Highly motivated who brings original thought, challenge and innovation to solving problems.
* Anticipates challenges and shows an ability to think clearly and quickly through complex and dynamic situations.
* Ability to distil complex issues into key messages to support decision making and to put forward compelling arguments and rationales to all levels and audiences within Avolon and with our customer.
* Strong and independent minded with the ability to express your views with conviction and authority and not afraid to provoke established thought, or to accept challenge to your own views.
* Ability to travel internationally.
