Overview of CTC
The Clean Technology Centre (CTC) is nationally and internationally recognised as being a leading expert in the fields of resource efficiency, environmental awareness raising and training, and environmental programme management. They offer research, consultancy, and management services to a variety of clients in both the public and private sectors and work with a range of actors and partners in Ireland and Europe.
This position is for a researcher who will report to the Centre Manager. The successful candidate will work directly with CTC staff in carrying out their daily functions. On-the-job and formal training will be given as required. The position will be based in the MTU Bishopstown campus. Opportunities to travel nationally for on-site work and for occasional international travel (e.g. international conferences) exist.
Duties of the Post:
CTC wishes to recruit a proactive and dedicated staff member to work within our innovative team. The expected job function will be varied but initial work will be primarily on supporting the national Food Waste Charter, an EPA funded initiative to support Ireland’s response to SDG 12.3, the development and provision of training for the Savour Food programme around the area of food waste to businesses and local authorities. As part of this, and other CTC work (e.g. Erasmus + training, DECC supported Food Circle), the role will include the provision of food waste prevention training and support to a range of audiences including producers, schools, the service sector, communities, and householders. In addition, CTC manages the Green Healthcare project on behalf of the HSE, and the successful candidate will support Irish healthcare facilities on projects that target a reduction in food waste as well as other sustainability goals as outlined in the National Health Sustainability Offices sustainability strategy.
CTC also works on various other initiatives that this position will support including the EPA’s National Waste Characterisation of non-household municipal waste campaign. The successful candidate will be involved in both on-site surveying work as well as the collation of data, producing reports, and compiling the national dataset.

Qualification Requirements and Selection Criteria for role:
We are seeking applicants with a good understanding of the food system, resource efficiency, the circular economy, and climate action. Applicants should have an appreciation of environmental issues in Ireland and elsewhere, particularly those related to food waste, waste, and water-related initiatives.
Applicants must have:
* An honours degree and a master’s degree in environmental, food, and/or engineering-based courses. Alternatively, 4 years of experience working in related fields, such as food and food waste, environment, resource efficiency management will be accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree.
* Excellent communication skills.
* The ability to manage and work across a variety of projects, both under their own initiative and within multiple teams.
* Fluency in English and excellent written and oral presentation skills.
* Clear understanding of the food system, food waste, and the challenges involved in reducing food waste.
The following experience and knowledge are highly desirable:
* Experience conducting applied research.
* Experience in the provision of training.
* Proven analytical skills (including statistical analysis).
* Experience managing social media accounts and websites (WordPress or other).
* Some knowledge of the Irish language.
* A valid driving license.

Remuneration, Benefits and Facilities:
Salary scale effective 1 October 2024:
Researcher Salary Scale: €44,847 to €51,313 per annum.
The rate of remuneration for all appointments may be adjusted from time to time with government policy.

Additional Information:
A successful candidate will be required to submit a passport, documentary evidence confirming academic qualifications, and to undergo a medical examination. Garda vetting and/or an international police clearance may also be required. References will be sought in relation to the successful candidate.
