Overview of role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Resident Medical Officer to join our multidisciplinary team of Radiation Oncologists, Radiation Therapists, Medical Physicists, and Clinical Nurse Specialists working within a busy outpatient radiotherapy service in the Southeast. This role will support the provision of medical services within the Department with the goal of providing high-quality patient care for our oncology patients. There will be opportunities to develop interests in all aspects of cancer care and training will be provided as required to progress in your role. Following the completion of our linac replacement programme in Spring 2024, the Department has moved to establish a stereotactic radiotherapy programme and clinical trial portfolio. This role will be based in the UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre, within UPMC Whitfield Hospital, Waterford, and would be ideal for doctors with an interest in Radiation Oncology. Prior experience in Oncology is desirable but not required. Please contact us directly with informal enquiries.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provision of medical services according to best practice guidelines.
* Provision of clinical evaluation, careful communication, considered and collaborative decision making for the proper delivery of oncology services to our patients.
* Provision of an open, caring environment for all patients, where proper explanation of treatment approach, careful treatment delivery, and appropriate follow-up is provided.
* Communicates to inpatient staff and referring physicians clinical and treatment-related information as appropriate.
* Utilize essential investigations as appropriate.
* Complete patient assessment within a suitable time frame.
* Be able to identify areas and situations where advice from other team members is necessary.
* Consolidated use of technology within the department.
* Provide clinical cover for the Consultant Radiation Oncologists where appropriate.
* Maintain all patient records accurately and completely.
* Competent involvement in radiotherapy treatment planning including contouring, plan evaluation, electron mark-up, and verification under supervision.
* Maintain up-to-date BLS/ACLS skills and participate in mandatory and recommended training programmes in accordance with organizational/professional requirements.
* Maintain and develop professional expertise and knowledge by actively engaging in continuing professional education and development.
* Competent clinical and interactive skills with patients.
* Prioritise and deliver to short deadlines.
* Demonstrate appropriate levels of professionalism in all aspects of work and behaviour.
* Maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with UPMC GDPR Policies and Procedures.
Engage in performance reviews as required.
Health & Safety
* Participate in clinical risk management, audit, and research activities.
* Compliance with legislation and EU directives on Radiation Safety, and adherence with Radiation Safety strategies within the Hillman Cancer Centres.
* Participation in quality initiatives e.g., JCI Accreditation, HIQA compliance, EPA compliance, etc.

Qualifications & Experience:
Person Specification
* Current registration with the Irish Medical Council.
* Appropriate undergraduate and postgraduate qualification.
* Appropriate post-registration clinical experience as determined by the Clinical Director.
