Head of Programmes (Maternity Cover 12 months) This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate senior leader to join our Programmes Team for a period of 12 months.
We are looking for an experienced Head of Programmes with excellent programmatic experience in gender-based violence, gender transformative approaches and women's rights, and a deep understanding of the structural causes of gender inequality.
The Head of Programmes will lead the programmes team and oversee programme implementation, particularly the Irish Aid funded Women's Rights Programme in Kenya, Nepal and Ethiopia, with some work in Ireland, programmatic innovation, grant/contract management and embedding policy analysis within programming.
Externally, the Head of Programmes will build ActionAid Ireland's relationships with key policy, academic and institutional funding audiences in the international development sector.
The Head of Programmes will be responsible for advancing a community of policy, practice and learning of ActionAid's work; but will also have responsibility for securing additional institutional funding to support ActionAid's work globally.

The team is comprised of a Programme Performance and Learning Coordinator, a GBV Protection Coordinator and a Programme and Policy Coordinator who work closely with Women's Rights Officers and Country Directors in partner countries as well as with domestic projects on migrant rights, and politicians and policy makers in Ireland to advance feminist alternatives to economic and climate justice.

The Head of Programmes will have key accountabilities for not only advancing a community of policy, practice and learning of ActionAid's work; but will also have responsibility for securing institutional funding to support ActionAid International Federation programming ambitions.
The role demands a senior leader who will bring deep programmatic experience in GBV, gender transformative approaches, women's rights, governance and policy work and ideally work in humanitarian settings.
It requires strategic vision, the ability to critically reflect, programme fundraising skills, strong commitment to shifting power and locally led development and intersectional feminist approaches, enthusiasm, and a spirit of collaboration to ActionAid Ireland as it delivers on its strategy.
