The Hospital holds a Certificate of Registration with the Mental Health Commission as an “Approved Centre” in compliance with the Mental Health Act 2001.
The Role: Senior Psychologist – Maternity Leave - Full-time – 35hrs – Specified Purpose
Reporting to: Head of Psychology
Role Summary
The Senior Psychologist will work as part of the Psychology team, managing both an inpatient and outpatient caseload. The psychologist should be an effective team worker, possess excellent analytical, diagnostic and therapy skills. They must be highly motivated, organised, efficient and flexible with a commitment to providing the highest quality evidenced based mental health care to clients attending Saint John of God Hospital.
Psychology Service Responsibilities
1. To provide a range of specialist psychology services for clients: comprehensive psychological assessment; intervention that includes a range of modalities and therapy models (including CBT, CFT, DBT); report writing; psychological programme implementation; outcome measurement; and review of effectiveness and service user satisfaction.
2. To ensure the provision of treatment pathways for outpatients and/or inpatients of the Hospital.
3. To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s mental health needs, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s difficulties, and employing methods of proven efficacy.
4. To work as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing an integrated and co-ordinated service to patients, and to contribute to the integrated care plans.
Professional Responsibilities
1. To be responsible for own work and interventions with highly complex presentations as an autonomous practitioner, and to seek supervision from clinical supervisor and colleagues.
2. To practice within the statutory code of professional practice/PSI Code of Ethics and maintain appropriate level of Registration/Chartership.
3. To have developed expertise in the delivery of evidenced based therapy modalities for individual and group therapy settings (e.g. CBT, DBT, CFT).
4. To provide clinical placements for trainee psychologists/volunteers at the request of the Principal Psychologist, ensuring that trainees/volunteers acquire the necessary skills, competencies and experience to contribute effectively to good mental health care and to evaluate such competencies.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Clinical/Counselling Psychology qualification as accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland and Dept. of Health.
2. Post qualification experience of working in acute adult mental health services.
3. Experience of managing own workload and responding to demand for psychology within a busy MDT.
4. Supervision experience with staff grade psychologists, trainees and/or assistant psychologists/volunteers.
5. Highly developed, in-depth knowledge & practice of psychological assessment and therapy within adult mental health settings.
6. Doctorate level knowledge of research design and data analysis.
