Job Description
Main Purpose of Role:
The Design Engineer is a key member of the R&D team responsible for delivering new products to the business and improving existing ones. Activities are aligned with the New Product Introduction (NPI) and Value Improvement (VI) processes, company procedures, and European and UK regulatory standards.
As a Design Engineer, you will participate in all design-related engineering activities to deliver the NPI project programme and develop the competence centre within R&D. You will be responsible for approaching tasks meaningfully, using your expertise and knowledge to achieve best-in-class results.
Key Accountabilities:
* Undertake mechanical design activities for product lifecycle management across the portfolio.
* Maintain a sound theoretical approach to design technology and demonstrate practical application of engineering knowledge.
* Promote innovation and advancement in technology and participate in research or specify it.
* Complete activities on time and within budget to meet programme requirements.
* Have knowledge and understanding of design principles, materials selection, and optimisation.
* Contribute to continuous improvement by reviewing technology, processes, and outcomes.
* Collaborate with third-party design and design for manufacture expertise as required.
* Develop and maintain constructive relationships with colleagues.
Requirements:
* Knowledge and understanding of engineering principles in relevant fields.
* Strong background in product design and development or continuous improvement.
* Awareness of effective planning and implementation of design activity.
* Strong analytical and critical reasoning skills.
* Team player with excellent communication and networking skills.
Desirable Criteria:
* Experience in areas such as materials selection, sheet metal design, and complex plastic moulding.
* Excellent technical experience and advanced knowledge of own discipline.
* Degree and/or professional qualification in a relevant technical/engineering discipline.
