Visiting Kilkenny is always a new, enlivening experience because we put so much focus on customer experience; it is what differentiates us from our competitors.Principal Objectives of the PositionThe Head of Finance will oversee the company's financial operations, ensure strong financial performance, set and implement the financial strategy, develop policies & procedures, and lead the finance team. A critical role within our business, this senior role requires expertise in financial planning, forecasting, data analytics, risk management, compliance, and leadership to guide the company towards financial stability and growth.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Financial LeadershipDevelop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company's goals.Work closely with the CEO and executive team to provide financial insights and advice on business decisions to drive growth and profitability.Lead long-term financial planning and analysis to support business objectives and ensure that all financial targets are met.Identify and mitigate financial risks and opportunities.Financial Planning and AnalysisOversee the preparation and presentation of budgets, forecasts, and financial models to senior members of management and board members.Analyse financial performance, trends, and variances to make actionable recommendations.Present weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the executive team and board of directors.Monitor key financial metrics and KPIs to ensure the company's financial health.Financial Operations and ManagementEnsure accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.Supervise treasury functions to optimise cash flow, liquidity, and working capital.Manage capital structure and relationships with banks, lenders, and other financial stakeholders.Oversee tax planning, reporting, and compliance with relevant tax authorities.Implement effective working capital management practices.Prepare and oversee financial audit process and annual financial statements.Risk Management and ComplianceEnsure compliance with financial regulations, industry standards, and internal policies.Monitor internal control systems to safeguard the company's assets and ensure integrity in financial reporting.Monitor external legal contracts and services provided by suppliers to ensure that these are operating effectively.Lead external audits and liaise with auditors to ensure smooth execution and resolution of audit findings.Stay informed about economic, regulatory, and industry changes that may impact the company's financial health.Keep abreast of technological advancements in financial systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, ensuring high performance and continuous improvement.Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration within the finance department.Set objectives, conduct performance reviews, and identify training needs to build a strong, cohesive finance team.Provide strong support and reporting to the other functions to ensure clarity on performance and highlight actionable insights.Manage relationships with external auditors, insurers, banking, and regulatory bodies.Stakeholder EngagementAct as the primary contact for external stakeholders including investors, auditors, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies.Work with other department heads to ensure alignment of financial and operational strategies.Communicate financial updates and strategy to the board of directors and investors.Own and manage key partnerships across key areas like utilities, insurance, legal, and sustainability.Core CompetenciesInternationally recognized professional accounting qualification (ACA).Minimum 10 years post qualification experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership finance role within the retail industry.Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.Proven ability to work under pressure and think laterally in dealing with a wide range of financial issues within tight timelines.Proven experience in financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.Extensive knowledge of financial regulations, accounting standards, and risk management practices.Proficiency with financial software and ERP systems (e.g., SAGE, SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks).Advanced knowledge of Excel for financial modeling and analysis.Familiarity with accounting and financial reporting tools.Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to lead and motivate a team, manage conflicts, and drive performance.Strong analytical thinking with a focus on problem-solving and decision-making.
